hi all,

Looking at the Kia Optima as next car. A new shape has been released this week. I am looking at the "older" shape around a 2013 vintage.

I have seen one with 75k miles on it. It has a 1.7 diesel engine and is the top of the range 3 spec.

What are your thoughts on this car? I am drawn by the 7 year warranty.

Nice to see somebody else who regards 70k+ as just about run in rather than worn out. Is there a ful service history?

Only thought on warranty is whether there's a mileage limit/exclusions?

Nothing in our household fleet with less than 6 figures on the clock

You've racked 'em up fast on the Lexus then, Mikey. No wonder it's got through a bulb or two.

As I parked up on the drive the other day mine was bang on 100,000 miles.

I've run several cars to 200,000 without major problems and some of them with no problems at all. Never needed a clutch for example. The notable exception was the Espace which I had from new for two years and only 60 odd thousand miles ( far lower annual mileage than normal for me because it spent so much time being repaired )

It went on a recovery trailer 16 times ( no you're not misreading that ) in 2 years.

Anyway, that aside ( and a couple of crumbling Vauxhalls ) most cars I've had went the distance without any great angst.

Pfft, I won't take that from a man who wears white shoes...

I don't, I think you're confusing me with AC. I do have some yellow boots though.

Chain cam on these engines wibbles my thrustlepouch. I'd go for a Hyundai i40 estate though.

Nearly convinced myself to buy a KIA Magentis last week (this one www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201511108571224 ), I expect the Optima is a better car still.

I think the i40 has the same 1.7 diesel engine.

How much would a clutch / DMF cost on this car?

I have always had mainstream cars in the past (Ford,Vauxhall, Toyota etc). I have never had a car from a small manufacturer. Should I be worried?

Kia Warranty is 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever is the sooner.

....and I think you'll find that Hyundai/Kia most certainly aren't a small manufacturer (around top 5 by world sales volume).

It uses same 1.7 L diesel engine which has tendency to lose power due to fuel filter blocking in low temperature. For Kia Sportage Kia fitted new filter from 2014 onwards. Some Sportage owners claim it didn't solve the issue.

But it is a good car and you will get a lot for the money. It is quite unique too - Kia doesn't sell this in large quantities.

Clutch/DMF damage may or may not be covered under warranty.

Not, usually.

I quite look the look of them, quite sharp in a reserved sort of way.

What is the parts supply like?

Is it main dealer only or do the likes of ECP/GSF supply them?
