 Car Parts Quiz - Bromptonaut
Hopefully we can all get 100% at this:

www.surveee.org/carparts.html

The difficult bit is that it's written in American....

Outstanding! You you NAILED this test! You identified all of the major car parts did better than 99% of the people that have taking this test! You could get a job working at any auto-parts store or car dealership with your vast knowledge of car parts, which will can earn you more than $25 a hour.

Grrrrr it was some secret plot to get me back to work.
Car Parts Quiz - Old Navy
I gave up after a few questions, anyone who does not get 100% should not be let loose with a car.
 Car Parts Quiz - Ted

Easy peasy..........they should put some harder ones in the kwiz.

I bet a fair few of today's new motorists though have little idea. I do have to laugh when I saw the neighbours son being coached for the "show me, tell me" part of the driving test.

I was aware of this part of the test but had never read it.
Oh dear! IMO I suspect very little of this will ever be used after the test.

No 1. How do you open the bonnet??

3.2 in the list. How to check the windscreen washer fluid level ?
On my MK2 Cortina. Look at the plastic bag hanging on the hooks.
On all my Fords since and my Jaguar the bottle is hidden in the wheel arch.
All these vehicles tell me when it is " empty" but nothing useful like half or a quarter full so it is an early reminder rather than when in truck spray on a motorway.

Indicators - Yes they may blink but a rapid blink used to indicate a bulb failed.

FAR far more important is what happens/what to do in emergency situations.
What if the engine stops especially when at speed ?
Effect on power steering / brakes, momentum and what to do.
Try not stop in lane 3 effect,:-(

Fortunately I have only had two " engine stopped" when driving along.
The last was a cambelt snapped on a non main road and I kicked the clutch in and rolled on to a safe stopping place.

Why not? What difference does being able to name the components make you ones ability to safely drive? I reckon my wife would get about half. I'm not sure my Mother would do any better. Both safe and experienced drivers.

My sister would probably get 100% and she's b***** lethal on the roads.

"You're not safe because you don't know what a water pump looks like!" ??

Pompous nonsense.

p.s. I got 100%.

Until you get ripped off by an unscrupulous garage because you don't know how a car works.

Do you know how your computer works?

Well enough to know when to rent an expert. It has only happened once in the last decade. Gas boilers are a different matter. :-)

I bet you couldn't pick up on a disreputable repairer who was determinedly after your money. And certainly not by technical knowledge alone.

So what's the difference?

My 27 year old niece has absolutely no idea whatsoever how a car works. She's been using one for 10 years including getting it repaired / maintained without undue issue though.

Pompous nonsense, as I said.

>> Pompous nonsense, as I said.

I am not an expert in pompous, I call it common sense.

I had to rescue my daughter from a rip off garage when she was a youngster. A lot of critical defects disappeared when I arrived. So did the customer they tried it on with.

"anyone who does not get 100% [on a quiz about car parts] should not be let loose with a car"

What has that to do with anything other than pomposity?

You trying to pretend it was concern for their wallet in a car repairers is somewhat disingenuous.

A+ .. although I did have to search Google images for air filter.

Got 100%, A+ but if I got anything less I would have been embarrassed. Far too easy although these Facebook things always are as they want people to share the results on Facebook. It is nothing more than a marketing company making money from adverts on their quiz.

Brake rotator? What's one of them? Shirley they mean brake disc.

Wheel cylinder? No, it's a brake cylinder.

Never mind, still got 100%.

The American for brake disk.
As a regular reader of an American based Jaguar forum I have got used to some of the American descriptions such as lug nuts. :-)

A well known and loved American invention. I have not seen that word for a long while.

or did you mean
A portmanteau of zero and jerk. A zerk is the kickback that you get when you accelerate from rest or come to a complete stop while driving. A zerk can be strong or weak depending on your acceleration.

Indeed. Funny how they say a car has disk brakes, then try to deny it is actually fitted with disks.

Something a little trickier. The world's most difficult car quiz!
