 Cheap Car Hire - CGNorwich
Just reserved a Twingo for a fortnight in Lanzarote for £73 including insurance CDW with nil excess. Seems amazingly cheap. Anyone rented a car cheaper?
 Cheap Car Hire - WillDeBeest
No, but I'm sure the spammers will be along in a minute to tell us how we could.

Just hope it's not one of the really cheap hire companies that then force you take expensive super CDW. At least with that car you won't lose out too much if they tell you to bring it back empty and charge for a full tank of fuel.

No it's with Auto Reisen, one of the most respected car hire companies on the islands. I always use them or Cicar.

Outstanding deal.

As a tip though, make sure you examine the body work and make sure they agree and note any damage when you pick it up and again when you return it - AND keep a copy of the sheet.

Sometimes they have a habit........
 Cheap Car Hire - CGNorwich
Yes I do but with CDW and a nil excess there shouldn't be a problem.

Sounds like a cracking deal but what are you going to use the car for after day 3?

Are you using the car as your accommodation or are you staying at the back of beyond Caleta de Caballo ?

Lots of horror stories about overseas car hire. I went against the trend, booked cheap and refused CDW.

Bought an annual CDW excess policy for about £30.

Had no issues, and a refund for the fuel in the car upon return. It was with Record @ Alicante

Even the big companies can try it on, an Avis franchise in Perth WA put a £300 charge on my credit card after I had returned to the UK. I had photos of the car at the start and end of the rental. The head office in Melbourne sorted it very rapidly after a letter mentioning fraud and unauthorized debits Cc'd to the card company and travel agent that had booked the car. The photos were not mentioned or required. I suspect the franchise thought that the card charge would not be queried.

At £5 a day I won't feel bad if I don't use it every day. Actually I am staying in the less touristy North. I' m not keen on resorts. Rented a nice old farmhouse. Here in fact

Never been there before. Looks intriguing

Much warmer than here in march I would have thought. That villa looks nice, especially the outside. Have fun.

Well jel, CGN. Hope you have a blast.

That's a good rate with full CDW but you can rent cheaper and buy CDW cover from 3rd parties for a fairly nominal amount and it wouldn't exclude tyres etc as AutoReisen's does.

In mainland Spanish resorts the basic rental off-season is not far off free.

Yes but:

1. Some expect you to take their super CDW cover which is not cheap - or charge your credit card. You might not get the money back.

2. Some companies have clapped out cars with damage. You won't get even a nearly new card.

3. They charge for a full tank of fuel and expect you to bring it back empty... which many won't. So they keep making money on tanks of fuel.

I'm not saying they all operate like that - some do.

most don't. And car hire in Spain is ridiculously cheap. I can currently get a fiat 500 for two weeks for under 40 quid.

A deal that includes full CDW with no excess cover is far better than having to pay the cost of repair with the hassle of recovering from a CDW Insurer months later. CDW cover doesn't cost a "nominal sum" anyway, it's around £4per day or £45 a year day for European cover.

March is not off-season in the Canary Islands.

As far as I am aware all Canary Island hire companies include CDW in their rates so buying it separately would not be an option.

£5 a day, the price of a couple of coffees, for car hire sound pretty low to me anyway and pursuing an option to try to save a few pennies off that would hardly be worthwhile

Recently back in civilisation I want to hire a car on tues 27/10 in Scottsdale ( Phoenix AZ) and drive to friends in Placerville CA by Thursday pm 29/0. Enterprise online was about $450!!
Plus gas costs. Need to research it more otherwise I'll fly.
Any recommended sites for USA car hire please?

You have a problem or several.

Problem 1 is that Placerville is a one horse sh!t kicking town, with few car rental agents
Problem 2 its pickup and drop off across states.
Problem 3 is most places are sold out for those dates

Result = Expensive.

As Z says, Placerville is the problem, use Sacremento as your destination (about 45 miles away) and on www.carhire3000.com cars are £45 upwards (which is still expensive by US standards).

Use the Placerville and Sacremento Heritage Railroad to get from Fulsom ( pop in and say Hello to Johnny Cash) to Placerville.

Converted to LPG or have you been in the States too long?

I've never heard of the Heritage Railroad, although the Rail Museum in Sacramento is impressive. I think I will skip the car hire and fly SW from Phx to Sac. It's still pushing 90 in Phx this weekend so a cheap motel with pool beckons. Need to visit the Museum of Art before I fly out...then bus from airport to Sac Downtown and catch the Light Rail to Folsom then uber taxi to where my friend works in El Dorado Hills.
Anyone interested in BIG trains would love Flagstaff. Long double decked container trains, with three power units up front, one each middle & rear, pass through the centre of Downtown every twenty minutes or so. They just go on and on and on and on....
Thanks for the car hire advice
