Somewhere near to the route

Oh forgot to mention
spoons is NOT an option.

The only one I know that way is the Swan at Fradley Junction.
The food used to be basic, but that was years ago, no idea what it's like now. But if the weather's nice, the location is great, right by a busy canal junction.

I'd forgotten Alrewas. there are 3 or 4 pubs there but you might have to do a bit of research as I can't remember the name of the good one, and I'm out of date anyway.
Quite incidentally, there is a very good butcher's in Alrewas, Coates I think.

Yeah, I found the swan at Fradley. Its got pretty dire reviews on the food front.

Finally, something I can comment on with authority.
The Silk Mill Ale & Cider House in Derby (not to be confused with the Silk Mill museum nearby). Lovely food, proper ales and a good atmosphere too.

I'm sure it great, but not keen on diverting into the centre of Derby

Try the White Hart at Duffield then. I've only been there for a drink, but it was the right sort of place and I was told the food's good too. Car park is off Wirksworth Road behind the Co-Op.

If you're planning on including Matlock Bath on your itinerary, I'd suggest you avoid it tomorrow unless you happen to be keen on motorbikes.
If railways do happen to be on the menu, I wholeheartedly recommend both the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley and the Ecclesbourne valley line from Duffield to Wirksworth.
Monsal Head is always worth a visit though I haven't been for many years and cannot comment on the quality of the local pub; it used to be very good though.
