Ford Fiesta - 5 year warranties? - Stuu
My local Ford dealer has brand new Fiestas stickered up advertising a 5 year warranty - first ive heard of this.
I know there had been rumblings about it so does this mean they may have gone and done it now?

Seems strange since Fords apparently dont need a long warranty to sell.

The standard Ford "Classic Plan" warranty is 3 years/60,000 miles, but it can be extended by a further 12 or 24 months. www.ford.co.uk/BuyingandprotectingyourFord/Warranties/NewCarWarranty

So you think its just the dealer throwing in extended warranty?

Probably a local Ford Dealer looking to entice people in with a 5 yr warranty.

The Ford dealer may have lost a lot sales lately to Kia/Hyundai and the new Toyota 5 year warranty which is well advertised on TV & Press.

How long can Ford / Vuaxhall / other European based car makers sit with 2 yr warranties and 1 year insurance backed extensions, limits of 60,000 miles etc

When I was getting my first car in 1966 the Ford warranty (and all the main sellers.......Austin, Morris, Hillman, .............)was 12 mths, 12,000 miles

It was still 12mths when I bought wifey a new Renault Clio in 1998. Extention to 5 yrs was £600 but it included top level AA cover, so it near enough paid for itself.
It also came with a money back offer if no claim was made, and, perhaps astonishingly to some people. we got the £600 back.

Looks like people are really buying longer warranty cars in larger numbers :)

If Ford is forced to offer 5-yr warranty, other brands can't hide for long.

But not all warrantees are equal.... the extended ones from many manufacturers tend to exclude rather a lot of potential failures.

IIRC the EU stipulates a 2 year manufacturer warrantee and subsequent years tend to be dealer backed and begin to include exclusions. It's always worth checking the small-print in these situations e.g. does the car have to be serviced by a Ford dealer for all 5 years etc ?

Then, in the end, whatever you may think, YOU ARE PAYING for the warrantee in the purchase cost, it's just insurance after all and the manufacturers / dealers are not in the business for charitable purposes.

So, beyond a watertight 2 or 3 year warrantee, such offers are not a factor in any purchase decisions I make and I'd council others not to be seduced by them any more than stick on stripes or dodgy wheel trims/alloys on a difficult to shift base model.

I got 5 year warranty (and 5 years servicing) in the deal on our new Honda Jazz - difficult to tell exactly how much the extra cost in the overall deal, but I think it was about £1000.

Salesman (and business manager) thought I was mad, but I can just forget about it for 5 years which is well worth £200 per year to me. Servicing alone probably averaged that amount on the old model.

The bigger FIATs such as the Bravo now come with a five year warranty :).

Rattle, it could be argued that given Fiat's previous reputation for reliability they need to offer the 5 year warrantee as an inducement to sale ? My company for many years would not allow us to lease Fiats or Alfas due to the amount of time they spent off the road for repair, having said that they favoured Vauxhalls so defied their own logic.....

I'm not particularly anti-Fiat btw, we once ran an Uno Fire as a 'train station' car and it was very reliable (but went rusty) and cheap to repair, great little car but fundamentally simple - nothing much to go wrong on it.

All these Kias and Hyundais are marketed on value, their core demographic likes the idea of a
hassle free motoring experience so 5 and 7 year warrantees make sense. Still don't induce me to buy one though.... maybe when I'm older and/or wiser ?

Hartwell dealers are now offering 5 yr warranties on new Fords.

Whatever the length of a warranty, the average cost of claims is factored into the selling price somewhere or other.
