Well I thought I could but (a) am I sure (b) am I misleading others.

Well, I found it an interesting programme. It looks like diesel engines are going to be around for a long time.

twas a good prog. I wonder why modern hybrids are not diesel based.

I read it's to do with the characteristics of the two engines not complementing each other. Both produce low down torque unlike the petrol/electric hybrid. I think the french are trying to get one to work, I think in a 4x4 body.
I think they had quite a few technical problems, it's a bit of a problem child as i understand it.

Peugeot and Mercedes both make diesel-electric hybrids.

www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/peugeot/508/first-drives/peugeot-508-hybrid4-first-drive-review

Reviews suggest the French variants aren't a joy to drive, the Merc somewhat better (but not as good as a pure TD or petrol-hybrid).

I read a comparison test in Whatcar that showed the Merc had plenty of grunt (sub-7 second 0-60 iirc) and better economy than the 520d and Jag XE 2.0d it was tested alongside.

Thanks for the links. Looks like the french are still struggling with it. The merc gets a good write up, I'd not noticed that one pop onto the market.

Some are diesel hybrids aren't they? There's the MB E-Class E300 diesel hybrid and the Peugeot 508 RXH.

I should have read Lagoons' reply... It's probably only these two mind.

I always understood that the likes of the Prius were petrol as diesel engines in cars in its early days were not popular in the USA.

As I remember Somebody from PSA once said: Diesel is expensive, hydbrid is expensive, diesel-hybrid is expensive squared!

Peugeot are dropping the diesel hybrid.. with some bitterness

I said somewhere it would end in tears.
The French and advanced electronics - or even simple electronics - are a mismatch..

The Exocet missile and the Super Etendards went quite well, unfortunately.

Not quite, the Exocets used against us had been " got at" and the warheads did not explode. Not that it made a lot of difference the damage was done by the engines and fuel, it may have saved some lives though.

508 RXH? I quite fancy one now they're depreciating properly. I bet Zero can't wait for me to get one.

Last night's documentary illustrates the problem the "Diesel is the fuel of the devil and should be banned" brigade has. Empty supermarkets and shops along with no online shopping deliveries would concentrate a few minds. Not to mention food production and moving virtually everything we use.

Is the Volvo still not ready, then?

Nearly, Will. Nearly. Patience. Update shortly.

Go get a kebab for lunch, and when you've finished it I'll tell you.

In addition to Pug/Cit and Mercedes mentioned Volvo have made one.

Not an ecomental one either. They had a 1.6 diesel they could have used but hooked the electric power up with the 5 cylinder D5 instead. Not sure quite where that leaves the car since all their new cars are going 4 cylinder two litres.

The new XC90 T8 is a petrol hybrid so Volvo's diesel hybrid might be short lived.

An enjoyable hour and I learnt why a Deltic is so called. I had no idea of the configuration of the cylinders. I smiled when the presenter drove the shunter train and said this was the first model on everyone's model train set. Spot on.
I would have loved to have heard the Deltic going though.
I chuckled at the part about tractors and pulling the weighted trailer when all that black smoke poured out. Mind you, VW could probably fix that!

Watched it last night, I enjoyed it although I felt it was rushed towards the end.
