Skoda Octavia II - Servicing the Octavia - Woodster
I phoned round 3/4 Skoda and VW dealers for the first service on the Octavia. Got my local VW dealer in the next village cheapest - £146, (after a little light hearted badgering) cheaper than Skoda dealers by £22. I assumed it'd be the other way round. I've only ever had servicing inside the warranty period at this VW dealer and always instruct them to do service items only, regardless of tyres, pads etc. but I didn't think was too bad for warranty maintenance purposes. They did an insurance repair job on my Golf 18 months ago and I noticed a tiny bit of paint had rubbed off just when I wanted to sell it. They took it straight back in no quibbling whatsoever. I'm no fan of main dealers but reluctantly admit this little garage seems pretty fair.

£146 for an oil and filter change and inspection seems just a bit on the high side but if you know them and trust them then that's more important than £22. My experience of VW and Skoda is that Skoda are less expensive and much better but I recognise this of course varies from dealer to dealer and your finding is more relevant to your needs. I suspect you're in a VW dealer appreciation minority and I note you say "village" not town or city where IMO many VW dealers have an over inflated opinion of their skills and value.

Probably still a small, family run dealership. They're getting thin on the ground these days, but they can be gems. Generally big chains stay in the big towns and cities.

The Renault dealer who looked after our Scenic was a small, single branch, family owned affair, and they were fantastic. Great customer service, fair pricing, no "invented" work, and the techs would personally chat with you and run through the checksheet with any advice. You'd also get the car back with hinges and catches freshly greased, fluid levels absolutely cock on, and the real impression that someone had actually taken a pride in doing a good job. MD's card with direct line and email address attached to the invoice too.

Unfortunately, they went into administration about a year ago. Too honest, I suspect.
