The original Panda is now a bit thin on the ground, but how about this pair - tinyurl.com/mlsxcrw
I strangely quite fancy one for some back to basics summer fun, but not at over a grand.

My step-sons first car was a Panda 4x4 Sisley. He sold it for a decent profit to a farmer on Anglesey. Maybe it's still being used on the farm by the farmer's wife?

Not sure whether I should have put this in the " Unusual planes, trains but no automobiles" thread or here.

Not my cup of tea, but a few were having kittens about it on another forum I look at.

I saw one of the bug eyed Scorpio recently. It's tiny next to a Mondeo, more Focus estate size.
|
I preferred the hatch, but the V6 would more than acquit itself in modern traffic. Bit thirsty at todays petrol prices though.

Too good to be true?
Feltham young offenders institute, is that near, I get confused with Eltham and Feltham?
Zeddo, your Baileywick?

>> I saw one of the bug eyed Scorpio recently. It's tiny next to a Mondeo, more Focus estate size.
Are you sure about a Scorpio saloon being smaller than a Mondeo and closer in size to a Focus estate? The Scorpio was probably a little under 16 feet.
I think this goes to show how much useable interior space has improved. This was a big car with long overhangs and smaller cars today have more useable space.
|
I don't get, shirley it will be registered to someone still. How will the new owner transfer to their name?
Nice car, probably unbeatable when new. It will never drive like a 51k car now.
Dad had a bug eyed Ultima early 2000's.

The registered keeper is not the owner. The owner could come back and claim it.

From what I saw one parked behind the other, yes.
My wife's Auris estate is longer than my S60. This is not based on any published figures but the actual floor space it takes up in the garage.
|
If we're comparing lengths, the ever-reliable Wikipedia puts a current Focus estate at 4.556m and a Scorpio estate at 4,826m, a difference of 270mm, or quite a lot. A closer comparison would be with an S211 E-class, which is only 58mm longer at 4.884m, or a current Mondeo at 4.869m. The previous Mondeo estate was 4.830m
The Focus is probably heavier than the Scorpio, but so is everything nowadays.

Yeah, I noticed that. LOL

Essentially its a fenced off plot with some run down sheds. Methinks the missile base angle is a bit of a con, there is not even a bunker or silo.
|
Nike missles i think were portable, but yes the actual missile site will be nearby. That is the domestic site.
|
In common with most Nike products were these missiles made in China?
|
>> No, not a closed low pressure circulation
Or even an LNER Peppercorn A1 Class

That'll have taken a while to do and they'll have had to have a large amount of help. Some of that stuff isn't a one man job!
|
>> That'll have taken a while to do and they'll have had to have a large

Not really, its a completely unusable bodge job, nothing works, it has no engine - the only help needed is a fork lift.
|
Yes thanks, i know it's not been restored to flight condition ;) i meant it's not something your average retiree would potter about with on an evening on their own.
|
>> your average retiree
They are "ex-RAF engineers who have bonded over their love of aircraft", so presumably knew a bit more than most about what they were doing (unless they worked in accounts).
|
I might manage something Airfix kit sized, but not 1:1 scale :)
|
7 foxing grand? for a tarted up BL1100? you gotta be acing a gee-raf aint ya?
|
A Fine Example, as they say.
|
An appreciating asset due to its daily driveability and rarity, even.
|
That silencer doesn't look right to me. Probably had a s/s jobbie fitted May Bee.
|
You wouldn't have paid that much for one at the time, because 1100s and 1300s were everywhere. But now (if it's really as described and isn't rusty behind the sills) it's a rare car worth the premium if that's your taste.
It's a nice car capable of good cross-country speed, but the handling can be treacherous if you don't keep your foot well down through bends. Lifting off mid-bend when you're pressing on can unstick the tail and that can be difficult to catch.
Driven sedately it's a nice old motor. The wood fillets annoyed me in my snobbish youth but I quite like them now, retro fifties charm. However the plain unadorned Morris 1100 was aesthetically cleaner. I liked its strip speedometer.
|
I'd buy it Sire, if I had Lud's sort of money.
;-)
|
You won't regret it Guv, sweet as a nut that motor, I was going to retain it for her indoors but seeing as your other half's so keen I didn't have the heart... (Raises voice) Terry! Give the walnut veneer in this carriage a squirt of Pledge and a wipe over for the gentleman while we repair to the office to discuss the business aspects... (Lowers voice) We have a particularly generous insurance package for family men such as yourself sir... Cup of tea? Glass of Wincarnis? Something a bit stronger to keep the cold out? Step this way, oops mind the carpet, dog's been at it...
|
>>You won't regret it Guv, sweet as a nut that motor
Yew should have been a writer Sire. I know you were/are but, I mean a proper writer, knowle mean :)
|
I am at a loss as to why no-one wanted mine for the cost of shipping it. Totally original in every way, no rust and a very low mileage engine. You'd have thought that it was worth a ton as a source of genuine spares if nothing else.
|
Where did you advertise it?
|
I spoke to the owners club and discussed it with them.
|
>> I spoke to the owners club and discussed it with them.

Then as you say that is surprising.
|
>> I am at a loss as to why no-one wanted mine for the cost of shipping it.
I remember your offer FMR, and I wanted it actually (subject to close inspection of course but not expecting any surprises). I seem to remember it was rhd too. But I didn't have the money and didn't need another car, so had to be stern with myself.

My mechanic having specialised in Stags for years says if you put the proper coolant in them there is not a problem.

That's what I read and heard...I was really tempted.
|
>>My mechanic having specialised in Stags for years says if you put the proper coolant in them there is not a problem<<
If I had a tenner for every time I've heard that one from a 'Stag specialist', or 'all it needs is a careful rebuild' I could afford a nice late 2500TC.

Why on earth didn't they use the Roving Vee 8 injun?????????

Rather have this little beauty. Probably not as quick as the V8 and more than a month's pension !
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1920-Jowett-8hp-H-O-2-Light-car-/301499043580?hash=item4632be4efc
Not an 8HP though....more likely about 6.5. I can dream !
|
A lot of tasty old jalopies on that site Ted, and some pretty steep asking prices too actually.
Almost my favourite is the cheapest viable car, the Chevy pickup. I'm afraid that red Javelin might be a bit past it even for you though. For spares perhaps.
I always wanted to be a hood and I think that Packard gangsters' tourer is magnificent, if a bit over-presented so to speak. It would look better with a graunch or two and the odd bullet hole.
|
Only 2,908 miles on the clock, and no doubt thrashed for most of it.

Are people really going to buy it because it was on Top Gear? It doesn't seem useful for anything else.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Bidders should be aware that the airbags have all been disabled making room for the roll-cage. To re-instate the airbags would involve removing the roll-cage and seating. So, in its current state, the car is not type-approved and should not be driven on the road. The Vauxhall Technical Team will work with the successful bidder at handover to fully explain how the vehicle has been adapted. Please be aware converting the vehicle back into use on the public highway would incur significant cost.
|
Shouldn't it be on the C4P Christmas Tree for WDB?
|
...wish I'd thought of that.
|
Shouldn't it be on the C4P Christmas Tree...?
It's a small Vauxhall; it'll find its own way into a tree soon enough.

I'm surprised its for sale - I remember the old Lacetti was given a Viking funeral, but Hammond mentioned that it had to be scrapped as they were not allowed to sell it on.
I would have thought that an organisation such as the Beeb would be to scared of being sued in the future
|
>> It doesn't seem useful for anything else.
I've just been reading a discussion on Piston Heads about it. It could be allowed to be used on the highway if it's declared as modified.
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1561938&mid=153009
Track day cars, and rally cars have things like air bags disabled, and roll cages fitted. Some track cars are driven from home to track and vice versa, and rally cars quite often compete on road stages.
Also, www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/429032/mot-inspection-manual-classes-3-4-5-7-vehicles.pdf - page 9.
5. Modified vehicles.
Where a vehicle has been extensively modified or converted, certain reasons for rejection, such as for components ‘missing where fitted as standard’ should not be applied, for example:
- a car converted for rally use (i.e. rear seats removed and fitted with a roll cage and full harness seat belts etc.) may have been converted so as not to require a brake servo, power steering or airbags
- a car converted to a stretch limousine may no longer be fitted with curtain airbags or functional Electronic Stability Control.
>> Shouldn't it be on the C4P Christmas Tree for WDB?
I had contemplated it ;)

Does it come with fool service history ;)
|
On it's current bid she will donate £16000 to charity and keep £48000 for herself, not bad.
A fairer way would be for her to take a fair market value of the vehicle and donate the remainder to her charity.

Never seen the appeal of paying a fortune for a car, 'just' because it once belonged to someone famous.
Anyway,
1994 Audi Cabriolet driven by Princess Diana to be auctioned at Blenheim Palace. It is tipped to make between £35,000 and £40,000.
