Sitting on 9 points he tried his luck....and lost.

Poor fellow, hoist with his own petard as he freely admits.
Someone passed me coming the other way today, on a suitable bit of road near here, going very fast indeed in I think a red Jaguar XF thing. Doing better than 100 I'd say.
Doesn't upset me when done properly but it would set many tongues tutting disapprovingly. Over 100 is nearly always slightly risky on a single carriageway.

Why on earth don't people like him go on an advanced driving course.
It's not hard to spot a speed camera, camera van or police car parked up.
Then, when they became more aware of their surroundings, they'd be better drivers anyway. At the very least it would save them money, embarrassment and inconvenience.

I think it's being a Lord of Creation Wp. There's a tendency to forget that you too are but a mortal. Cabinet and shadow cabinet ministers and their accompanying carloads of heavies are usually waved on at highly illegal speeds and even given spontaneous motorcycle escorts through difficult bits of the West End.
Or has everything changed for the worse? God I hope not. YEE-hah!

Give him his due tho, "fair cop guv, I'll come quietly" none of this "tricky" Nick Freeman nonsense.

Or getting Pauline to take the points...

Will we now be paying for his transport through his expenses?

Presumably we were anyway.
Lord Prescott attended for 13 days in December and claimed £3900 attendance allowance. He claimed £527 in travel expenses of which about £200 was for travel, the rest rail etc.

Usually too late once you've seen it, it's zapped you. Based on experience...

Yep. If he'd been calibrated for the caravan towers limit of 50 rather than governing NSL of 60 I'd have been zapped two weeks ago by a camera van on the A75.
Was doing a smidge over 60 but not enough to be caught for that speed. .

Our lot are sneaky, they set up the camera van around bends in the road. Brake lights ahead on a free flowing road are a good sign.

I'm waiting for a letter with a Carmarthenshire postmark. I was doing an indicated 78 (so really 75) when I saw the van on the A40 near St Clears, 12 days ago. Looking at the local press they're pretty zealous at issuing tickets :(

70 limit? You should be OK...

If we're talking about camera vans.....
You've got to see them... and they've got to see you.
It's not an automatic process, there's a human in the van who has to aim a laser at your car and record it.
Now fair enough it's pretty damned quick and the operator is sat there waiting for you, but the laser takes a number of readings very quickly and if there's an anomaly (e.g. a noticeable speed difference) it'll keep on taking readings until they match.
So if you have your wits about you and put your vehicle in a position that has another one in the way (e.g. move into lane 1 behind another vehicle).. or.. slow down sharply so that it confuses the laser readings, so that by the time it has an agreed reading you are below the limit....... then you can help yourself.
You do however have to have an above average situational awareness for that environment (driving)... and that's the one that lets most people down.
|
Oh I did knock it down to 70 sharpish... The dipping front bumper would have been noticeable if the operator was looking straight at me. But the traffic was flowing in a way that made 78 feel natural; I wouldn't have been going that fast otherwise. I'm a professional.
