Due to some dirty little scumbag snapping off part of my number plate I need to repair it. I'm not paying out for some horrible new one as I suspect they'll try again as it has been tampered with more than once. My plan is to stick the plate onto a metal backing plate and fix that back to the car. Is that legal and acceptable under the construction and use regs? Any recommendations on the best glue to use on either a steel or aluminium backing sheet?
Policeman said they'd just be after the plate to go nicking fuel. Not too bright these thieves as there is no other car like mine for miles....I suspect the only print they got off the plate will be mine unfortunately.

As far as I am aware if you join the two parts together and the seam does not in any way obscure the plate then there is nothing to prevent attachment to vehicle by whatever means.

That's what I was hoping. Better go find this tiger seal.... hopefully I won't be posting later about getting stuck to the car...

Our car failed MOT a few years ago as a result of a snapped number plate - repaired with tape on the back so it was still fixed by the two screws. (actually tester said it should fail but said he would pass it if I agreed to get it replaced).
