What was this driver thinking?

Poor taste indeed and a bit sinister. But fabulous artwork judging by the photo.

I wonder what BBD thinks of it (the artwork, not the concept).

I would imagine he thought 'I bet some idiot will think that's real'.

He had a sense of humour but it seems that is a crime in itself these days.

The artwork is stunning for sure, but I don't anything could have ever mistaken it for the real thing.

>> I don't anything could have ever mistaken it for the real thing.

It's so good though... perhaps if you saw it fleetingly when drunk or stoned you might get a frisson... But you'd have to see it in the flesh to know whether it would take you in.

And people sent messages to his employer to get him fired? Dear God, what is this world coming to?

Why do people now think that to be of bad taste is a crime worthy of the most unbelievable comments, threats and actions?

I rather liked his finishing comment...

"It's boring now, it's removed and I've apologised, get a grip."

It came to it ages ago FMR. Hadn't you noticed?

Sporting of the guy's mum to pose for it though. Or did she allow herself to be bound and gagged for a photograph?

It isn't clear to me whether the image is painted on the tailgate or whether a photo on some of that film stuff used for decorating cars with flash logos was stuck on. I guess that's more likely really.

I feel that this is a train of thought we'll be happier if we don't follow....

Also, I gather its a photograph printed on that stuff that they "wrap" cars with.

I suppose it had to be really. Still looks great.

Mr Hellewell, who describes himself on his Twitter profile as a personal trainer from Wakefield, used the hashtag #rapetruck in some of his tweets about the design.

The bloke is clearly a Nutter. Tattoos, Cap and Pit Bull by any chance?

I don't see how a picture of a bound and gagged person can ever be funny. However at this time of year a bound and gagged Father Christmas would be funny (IMHO).

"I don't see how a picture of a bound and gagged person can ever be funny."

It should be someone famous and unpopular. George Galloway? Lord Sugar? Simon Cowell? That vile little Bieber thing? That would be funny.

If I'd done that and added my phone number I'd be a very busy designer.

Smart thinking BBD. The whining pretentious Russell Brand would be a good candidate.

Or a recumbent Bon(i)o or even better the scruffy tramp ?

Well he's a personal trainer from Wakefield. Driving a pickup truck.... Above average IQ I guess.

Women aren't entirely uninterested in being bound:

Witness the roaring success of that "Fifty Shades" book (despite its awful literary talent), soon to be attracting masses at the cinema too.

Some woman rang my employer* last week.... she had a right old moan and jazzed things up a bit.

My crime? A bit of London type driving in Plymouth.

*my employer is a personal friend who I've known for over 30 years and who knows I drive her van for a bit of pocket money

Nought wrong with making progress.

Mind you Mrs. MD did and now 'we' owe HMG £100.00. 41 years a clean licence. She is gutted.
Inappropriate "bumper" sticker (well tailgate) - Cliff Pope
It's funny in itself, but I immediately thought, Why a woman?

Then I read about his hashtag, and realised that behind the joke he really is a very suspect character.

Sometimes good jokes get into the wrong hands.

If it had been a picture of Harry Houdini or David Blaine, he'd have been justified in pouring egg on the complainers' faces.

Inappropriate "bumper" sticker (well tailgate) - R.P.
I thought it was funny....but I think my opinion lies somewhere between AC, BBD and Cliff Pope - that Canadian singer would have been funny. I read this on line somewhere this week. I thought the "artist" was American....which didn't particularly surprise me. I'm surprised the artist was UK based.

Ha - Just read the actual report in the link. The Police would have had no trouble in proving a S5 Public Order Act offence. Classic Alarm or Distress. The man is clearly a muppet.
Inappropriate "bumper" sticker (well tailgate) - WillDeBeest
About as tasteful as wearing a mock suicide vest on the bus. And presumably much the same in the eyes of the law.
Inappropriate "bumper" sticker (well tailgate) - No FM2R
The man is clearly a twerp as a minimum. And I am most certainly not justifying or liking his "joke" or behaviour.

But I don't find that half as concerning as the often malevolent and frequently excessive reaction from so many people who were not even directly involved, but are simply part of the professionally offended and had only heard about it.
Inappropriate "bumper" sticker (well tailgate) - R.P.
I still find it marginally funny....but maybe not...certainly not offended.
Inappropriate "bumper" sticker (well tailgate) - Enderman
I probably could have been shocked if I’d been driving behind it, but once I’d realised it wasn’t real, I’d have had a good laugh at it and the audacity of it.

But then I like humour that pushes the envelope of taste, probably because in my formative years you weren’t ‘getting’ it if you didn’t find the following example funny:

All of it; right to the end.

Now there's a man who has my sense of humour and understands women Enderman:)

Ref: Fifty Shades!

(apologies for going off-topic)
Pat, I only understand that I don’t think I’ll ever understand them:

One is happy to be photographed bound and hooded, for her son’s tailgate mural,
One (or more) is happy to marry a convicted murderer on death-row,
While others may claim workplace-harassment if you compliment their dress in the canteen…

And you know the real conundrum there? 1&2 were happy because someone complimented them on their dress.

And 3 didn't find the complimenter sexually attractive.

I think the one on the boot of my Vectra is far better

Is this some sort of a fantasy of yours Dave ?

It's not even a GM car let alone a Vectra :-) It looks like a Chrysler 300C to me.

Quite an appropriate motor though, surely? Proper hoods would look a bit pathetic in a Vectra, unless they were doing a furtive runner after coming to the attention of the authorities...

Should have not used a girl - maybe instead someone nobody has sympathy for like Tony Blair or David Cameron.
