Anyway, the Merc's alloys were beginning to look a bit tired. 110,000 miles of all weather use had taken their toll. A bit of corrosion here and there and a few kerb dings ( that must have been from when "Flossie" from the office borrowed it, can't think of any other possible reason ;-) )

So, out of curiousity I priced replacements, they're AMG jobs so I knew they'd not be cheap but blood and sand, a set comes in at just shy of £2000 !

So I got this guy to come with his van today and he tarted them up for just over £50 each. They look like new despite having previously, well, not having done so.

Hope they stay looking good for a respectable time. Didn't think the cost was too steamy.

Hope you didn't claim it on ex's

Certainly will.

The refurb guys are getting pretty good now, much cheaper option for most small touch ups

Me biker mate had the alloys on his Burgman done...look like new now. Mine need doing on the Wing, they're gold and getting scabby. Might have them done when it's new back tyre time.

Back wheel is a sod to keep clean...drive casing on one side, exhaust and caliper on the other. It's a work of art just to do the tyre pressure.

Funny you should mention the tyre pressures Ted. The bloke re-furbing the wheels had to deflate each tyre to mask them and obviously pumped them up again when he re-fitted them.

After he'd gone I thought I'd better check the pressures as I'm well OCD about stuff like that and was certain they wouldn't be right. They were however, bang on.

Little things like that cheer me up.

ElectraGlide owner nods head in sympathy.

Out of interest, does the Wing have angled tyre valves like Harleys?

We'll have had the Qashqai 4 years next month and prompted by earlier activities I had a good look at the alloys on it. They're unmarked which is course good but does also say quite lot for the advantages of higher profile tyres.

The rear has an angled valve, HM. The front is easy to access. The bike has small wheels, 14" at the back. The valve is angled towards the disc...no chance the other way...the disc is about 10 inches so it doesn't leave a lot of room to get at it.

Along with all the other gubbins, there's the shockers in the way as well together with the brake hose and handbrake cable !

Its not those two tone black and silver alloys Humph ?
Our work Qashqai has it - everyone is scared stiff of kerbing it!

Diamond cut wheels are the hardest of the lot to get repaired.

Any of the mobile repairers run a mile when you mention the two magic words diamond and cut.

The lacquer has started to fail on mine, Volvo want £~1900 for a new set of wheels, I'm looking at around £4-500 to get the wheels powder coated which will remove the shiny, bling diamond cut forever.

Almost like it had a different main driver?

The repair guy did mention that my wheels were diamond cut and that that made a difference but he still managed to make them look like new. They just disappeared one by one into his van and came out shiny. Not sure what he did, didn't like to ask !

No, the Qashqai has just the boggo standardo wheels I think they're called. As for the different main driver, well, hers doesn't get borrowed by Flossie from the office...

;-)

Will have to get your mans details then. Everyone I've spoken to about my wheels has resulted in the sharp intake of breath followed by the rub of the chin and the offer to paint the wheels silver or black - they're currently silver spoke faces with charcoal grey inners.

I got the contact from the HJ site actually, under FAQS "damage repair." "Smartalloy" was the name of them. I think they might be a franchise type thing. The chap I contacted was in Chester but the guy who came was from Liverpool which is a fair distance from here but maybe they share jobs or something. Anyway, I'm pleased so far.

Edit- my wheels weren't "two tone" so maybe that helped.
