Anyone used the Kia 7 year warranty? Daughter's aircon has packed up. Neighbour owns a garage and does her servicing, he said he reckons a seal has gone or something - it won't hold a vacuum.
So she just got her handbook out, it says she has a 7 year warranty.
No real exclusion (except re-gassing aircon, and if car is over 100k).
I've told her she should therefore contact the dealer and see what they say. Does anyone have any similar experience?

You don't say how old the car is.
Reading the link the a/c gas is only covered for 24 months.
Yes I've had use out of Kia's 7 year warranty but generally at the just under and just over 3 years. You will note that items covered by the warranty deplete as the vehicle ages.

Does that servicing meet Kia's servicing requirements so they will honour their warranty?
It might be a seal it might be a condensor. Only a gas fill and leak test will determine which.

Car is 2007. I have some recollection of when Kia announced this and it was the first time a manufacturer didn't insist on their own servicing - could be wrong though. Can;t do any harm to call them anyway.

You have to carry out servicing in accordance with the manufacturers recommendation. Without access to the service checklist how do you know if this has been met?
How is the local garage doing the software updates?
If the car needs parts which are coded to the car how will the non-franchise do this?
What about the bodywork check and stamp in the service booklet can anyone do this or does this have to be done at an authorised dealer? It's not a service item but without it the anti-corrosion warranty is dead and buried.

I have used the KIA warranty, my car was dealer serviced and the work was done no questions asked. All wear and tear parts are excluded after about a year if I remember correctly, the audio and battery are also time limited.
If the dealer does not "know" the car I would expect them to ask for service records.
The most common cause of the loss of air con gas is a stone hit on the condenser (in front of the radiator), as this is damage it is not covered by the warranty.

My 2007 Ceed had its AC packed up when it was 6 years old (always serviced by main dealers though not same one). The gas leaked out of the seal.
Dealer fixed without quibble. They even re-gassed for free [usually £59 charge].
PS: I made few other warranty claims as well. Sadly, car is now out of warranty. Even 7 years now seems so short for warranty :-/

I keep remembering that our AC is extremely feeble (quiet at the back there!) and needs regassing or something. I seldom use it but it's a blessing on rare occasions and anyway it's annoying when something on the jalopy doesn't work.
No warranty of course on this 14-year-old jalopy but I have high hopes of one or two indies I know.

Shouldn't be to hard to put right A.C.Our car windows are usually open when it is warm.The Picasso is a reasonable size bus it takes a while with the A.C.on to feel the draught.

Not quite the same thing but after they serviced my dads Hyundai at around 12,000 miles they put in a new gearbox. I told my dad to mention the gearbox was whiny, they found a small hole in the casing which was causing an oil leak. They changed the gearbox no questions ask.
A few weeks later I noticed a knocking noise from the rear suspension, the bushes had worn to nothing he went back to the dealer, they said "oh they always go on the i10, we will change them for you" and did the work again no questions asked.
However I would not be hopeful of getting an aircon repair on a 7 year old Kia under warranty!
