They were available imported into the UK for a period a while back; would it have been the 90's ?
I like old cars, and have a bit of a hair-shirt mentality. I seriously considered getting one of the imported ones once they were available second-hand: The idea of having an old car that was newly-built.
There's something appealing about appliances where you know pretty-much ANYTHING that goes wrong with them can be fixed yourself sitting barefoot in the dirt with just a screwdriver, pliers, and a hammer.

plus the obligatory roll of gaffer tape and can of wd40, as one of our engineers told me years back "if it moves and it shouldn't use gaffer tape, if it should move and doesn't use wd40"
