Check the Millers website for the right oil, then look on ebay for the 'Trident' trade version. I'm using 5W30 semi synth for the MX5, and have just bought some 5W40 full synth for the 1.6 VTEC Civic - both about £18 for 5L (not 4L) delivered from rrd-automotive.

i.e. ebay items 181336970883 & 151322420760

If the Berlingo needs the 5W30 full synth that's about £27.

The oil I ordered on Thursday from rrd came this morning.

Blimey is that how much oil costs? I don't think I knew that. In fact I know I didn't. Expensive stuff now isn't it?

You're talking fully synthetic oil in these cases; try the Europarts website for quality oils at reasonable prices delivered:

You'll probably find that some parts, such as oil filters, come at different prices depending on brand name, but are often re-branded products from a specialist manufacturer.

Personally I wouldn't buy a "Crosland" filter from ECP, for example They own or use under licence a number of names for their own products sourced from who knows where.

I think Triple QX is their own oil brand, and presumably it meets the standards printed on the container - looks better priced on their carparts4less site, and may be a good buy.

I like Millers for the irrational reason that their works is about a mile from where I was brought up, but they have been there a long time and they do provide data sheets with full specs for their products.

I'd suggest the OP tries their local motor factors, after looking up appropriate oils on various websites.

I tend to use: www.commaoil.com/ 'cos that's what my local factor stocks.

If you need 5W/30 fully synthetic you won't do better than GM Dexos 2 at £20 for 5 litres: tinyurl.com/m8jw46n

I've you used Triple QX on three different cars. I believe it's made by Shell, the spec sheet is online.

A previous thread contributor said it was made by Onyx. Both may be true.

I'll stick with my Millers.

Probably Onix

The Eurocarparts QX oil been established almost 10yrs and I've been using their fully syn for about 5yrs. I'm happy it meets the published spec and seek no more than that for an oil. As an example I put my Alfa diesel engine through the mill in terms of load and revs every day while running on this oil and it was in exactly the same condition at the end as the start despite having covered over 160,000mls.

It looks and smells nice too.

It may or may not be Onix oil, not sure ECP have ever disclosed this, but they say it is UK blended.

Carparts4less are selling it at £12.49 for 5l with free delivery.

a bargain on the reasonable assumption that it does what it says on the tin.

i think the main thing is to keep it topped up and change it regularly.

Well, I might be missing the point, but how about changing the oil in France?
Just looked up "Norauto" and they have lots of oil cheaper that you quote
eg
www.norauto.fr/catalog/260_Entretien-courant/261_Huiles-liquides/262_Huiles-additifs-graisse/264_Huile-moteur-auto.html
Norauto 5 litres 10w50 at 22.90 euros
Even TOTAL Activa 7000 Diésel 10W40 5 litres is 32.50 euros (knock off about 20% for exchange rate and that's roughly £26 ish)
I also used to stock up on oil filters/wipers/air filters in France 'cos they were cheaper.
Now, if I remember correctly, these norauto places will do the oil change for virtually free.
So, here's a suggestion.
Go over to France, find a big Centre Commercial (Auchan Calais??),
centres.norauto.fr/46-norauto-calais-coquelles
book car in for oil and filter change, go into Auchan to stock up with wine/beer/cheese etc. Have a meal at Flunch
www.flunch.fr/restaurants/restaurant-calais-ouest-249.aspx
or a sandwich and coffee
at the sandwicherie

and then pick up your Bling and get going!
Just a thought!

Not sure which engine ZK's Berlingo has but it's a 1.9 IDI similar to mine so I very much doubt it needs premium fully synth.

Handbook recommends a semi synth, Total Quartz 7000. ACEA B3 or API CF. Quartz 9000 is an alternative.
