Traveling home from London last night and on the M42 the choice is M6 or Bassets Pole/Lichfield/A51.

The overhead signs were saying A5 closed after A38 so expecting issues around Lichfield I chose the M6.

At Castle Bromwich the motorway was down to one lane, just as the slip road from the southbound M42 joins so effectively 5 to 1. Even at 10pm the M6 is busy.

Now why wasn't that information on the overhead gantries.

Lots of coachloads of ladies in posh frocks as well - must have been Ascot.

I drove down South on Wednesday evening and at 9PM there was a massive queue getting off the M40 at the A34 for Oxford as one lane of the slip road was coned off.

Seemed to me there were overnight roadworks being made ready all over the place.
