It was proper racing too, none of this rubbish where they spend half the lap 50ft of the ground.
Used to get a regular slot on World of Sport.

That was always a bit of a side show, the filler between the main races, fun to watch them get tangled up tho. I remember a fantastic meeting at Hadleigh in the 60s, Dave Bickers, Arthur Lampkin, Vic Eastwood (seem to recall he was the baddy - the dirty rider) Jeff Smith and a host of other names were all racing. Dot, Greeves, Matchless, and the nasty foreign Husqvarna and ČZ were all represented, Car park was a giant quagmire, the spectator areas were a quagmire, with the flimsiest chicken wire fence between you and the course, (the crowd got covered in mud, chain oil and castrol R at the bends) the bogs were buckets behind a canvas screen....
It was a place of awe and wonder for a 10 year old boy and his dad.
And then Motocross happened and ruined it.

Chairs, to keep Pat happy.

Hadleigh is,of course, just round the corner to Thundersley, home of Greeves.

Odd sound track. The 360 2-stroke engines sound just like 500 4 strokes! Dubbed from IoM Sound Stories?

Thanks Zed. I wish we had more speed than 0.5 meg. It's driving me mad.

A number of small firms in there now although the building is pretty time-expired now.
