Hi All
I have been a long term member on here with the Rio diesel since I brought the car new in 2009.
The car has just had it's 60,000 mile service and it's still going strong.
Fuel economy is great (50mpg in normal driving) with no squeaks or rattles.
The only area of the car that is starting to look warn out is the seat fabrics.
Where I used to have a baby seat on the rear chair now has some frayed fabric material on the seats.
Other than that everything else is great on the car, even the air con is still working fine.
Regarding the serving, I am getting a feel for when the diesel engine needs a good service.
The tell tail signs are :-
More gruff rumble at idle
More vibration through the car
A very slight turbo wine from 1,000 to 1,500 rpm (that goes away as the revs increase).
After the service / oil change all of the above disappears.
I think the 10,000 mile service interval is spot on as I get the above point's happening about 500 miles before the next service is due.
Next month the car will be into its fifth year of reliable ownership.
Not sure if I will have the car for another 5 years though.
It's done me well but I am starting to think of moving on.
Another diesel ? hmm not so sure

School boy error.
The title should show 5 years of ownership

No DPF. Running fine.
No need to change. Maybe start getting the oil changed between services at 5000 in case the additive pack is shot well before the next service?
Man maths may alter this opinion though?

Sounds like a cracking little car, I would buy it!

When I brought the car 5 years ago, I did wonder what I would be left with after paying the finance on it.
Would the car be worn out, would it be reliable etc.
Also being a KIA, at the time I knew I was taking a risk as not many people thought the build quality was on par with other car makes.
I have been pleasantly surprised.
In the five years of ownership the following items have had to be replaced :-
two side light bulbs
Two front tyres (at 22,000 miles)
four windscreens - seems the Rio is prone to collecting stone chips.
new wipers at 50,000 miles
Other than that just he usual fuel, tax and insurance.
Id imagine the newer Kia's are even better.
Would I recommend one for cheap motoring, yes very much so

If you 'can tell' the oil needs changing, it might be worth doing sooner or with a better long-life type oil.

Pretty much what I was meaning above - a bit like Lud and his noticeable improvement cleaning his air filter - means it was left too long.

I agree but for me 500 miles is two and a half weeks of driving.
hence i booked the car in for the next payday

Just perceptible to a sensitive driver. A bit too long perhaps, but not much too long.
And what was that crap about air filter oil screwing up the MAF sensor wiring?
Big raspberry.

Who mentioned wiring?

'Excessive amounts of air filter oil...'
The instructions are a bit vague. Some may be tempted to over-oil, who knows?
