Has anyone on here any idea of Citroen C5 servicing costs - mine is approaching the first (12.5K) service and before I phone the nearest dealer I just wondered if anyone had already had one so I had a rough idea if I was being done. Before anyone tells me to either a:)do it myself or b:) use a good indy I should point out that its leased so I have to use main dealer

Note to Fenlander - Ling told me I could get it serviced anywhere VAT registered, but after reading the lease thats not the case.

Mike,

I'd phone 2 or 3 dealers nearest to you and see if any is offering a deal.

I'd not read the terms re servicing in detail as I'd planned to go for dealer services anyway for the 3yrs. I've had a relationship with our dealer on an off for about 30yrs since I bought a DS from them and then shortly after they serviced and repaired my CX. They're not perfect but at least they take me seriously as someone who knows what's what with Citroens. Get trade at the parts counter too which helps.

I'm expecting this 12.5k service to be about £120... be interesting to see what prices you find. BTW I'm a bit behind you... on 6k now.

First services on most cars are normally oil & filter changes and a few checks. £120 would be good, but I'd expect prices in the region of £150 inc VAT.

By the way - best time to check service costs is *before* you buy the car. What if every dealer quotes £1000 - you're a bit stuffed now!

I remember checking out the 3yr servicing costs for both my new C5 and the wife's used C3 bought at the same time. They seemed affordable in the scheme of things but my mind has wiped the actual costs. I got a hell of a deal on my lease anyway and, compared with what someone would pay today, even expensive servicing will be 100% absorbed by the saving on monthly payments.

Bill - the cost of the service is not a problem, I just wanted to gauge what others were paying. If I couldn’t afford the servicing then I cant afford the car so its all academic! (plus if it was 1K a service then I just wouldn’t bother and would take the hit when the car goes back to PSA)

Fenlander - I have 2K to go yet, and will hold out as long as possible. My thinking is that I should just about get away with 2 services through the three year lease. Will phone about and post back - regional variation will be interesting.

Slightly off the original topic, but how do you find your clutch? I am finding that the clutch is slightly juddery - more so when cold, and worse still if it hasnt been driven for a couple of days. Its not so bad as to be a problem (will mention at the service) but just wondered if you suffered at all?

My clutch is very smooth at all times. The only driving issue, and minor one, is when in town going very slowly second gear it is possible to get the throttle into a jerky mode. Suspect this is a drive by wire fuelling issue when just a tiny amount of diesel is required. A touch more throttle, none at all and it gets it back to smooth again.

I should have said...

A touch more throttle or none at all and it gets it back to smooth again

As a reference, the first service on our 1.6HDi C4 Grand Picasso was £160 all in. Oil & Filter + air filter and checks.
I had it done at a small dealership in Northumberland as I was quoted almost double that by the supplying dealer in Germany. We were over at the time anyway.

One of my ex colleagues found the local dealers (Midlands) expensive for his Xsara Picasso, he took the car with him on the truck to dealer in the Forest of Dean to service it whilst he was delivering their cars, cost saving was worth the trouble.

So think of somewhere you go regularly where they might be glad of the custom.

Another thought, as oil is by far the biggest cost will the dealer let you supply our own, MB and Toyota will if its correct spec.

Ok - reagrding the clutch I may just drop into local dealer dealer and ask them to take a look - I thought maybe it was just a quirk, but as its just me DMF alarm bells are ringing. They keep hassling me to get the recall done anyway.

Checked the handbook and seen that it only holds 3.75 litres of oil, so will check any invoice carefully - bet they try to charge for 5!

First service slightly more than I expected - £190 all in at a long established family owned dealership (used to be a rover dealer). Variation in price was surprising. Cheapest is the one in the most expensive area, central bristol dealer (who come with a less than desirable reputation) wanted 220 and the easiest for me to get to was in weston - they wanted 240.

Was surprised to be told that first service includes polen filter change
