Just doing a bit of shopping in Bath city centre earlier and noticed this:
www.bathchronicle.co.uk/Crane-lorry-topples-Bath-hotel-construction-site/story-20479142-detail/story.html
If as reported it toppled after unloading its, er, load, how could that have happened? Someone retracted the stabilisers then hit the 'rewind' button instead of 'release'?

A crane lorry normally has stabilizers which come out from the side and prevent this happening when the weight shifts.
I can't see any in the picture so maybe he 'forgot' to use them.

In one of the photos you can see that the stabilisers, at the rear of the lorry and part of the HIAB, are retracted. Or at least the one on the high side is, and the lorry does not look raised as if the other one is out.

Well...this is what happens when you all go changing your names, it should be banned, I say banned!
I've seen some better pics of this now and the outriggers were down but not extended, probably due to the close proximity to the wall and the reach of the crane to get it where it had to go.
Entirely the drivers decision to risk it and on this occasion he made the wrong one.
Had it have worked though.....'We had a driver in here last week who did it' would have been quoted to all subsequent cautious and compliant drivers!
