Scrapped the old Honda - got £90 for it! Price for a scrap car has varied between £20 & £120 over the last few years.

it was £180 a tonne 2 months ago
£130 a tonne last week
depends on who is running the gaffe and if trade is slow then the price goes up to get the scrap metal thieves scrumming around in the early evening early morning when gods good people are in bed

£180 for a tonne of what, though, car bodies? This was £90 for a whole car. They give more for steel, or even a car without tyres and fluids.

I've just paid £50 for a friend's MoT failure Escort, I'm picking it up at the weekend and after I've taken anything off it I need for my Escort (bits of plastic trim, mainly) I'll weigh it in. Another friend got paid £185 for scrapping his M-reg Escort a fortnight ago, no wonder HE didn't want my £50.

Why did you scrap the Honda FT? I noticed that you had problems with brake fade. Was it going to cost too much to sort, or were there other things on the car you just got fed up of? How many miles had it done, as I noticed it was about 20 years old!

FT its for a complete car including 4 wheels and tyres and one spare and all its bodily fluids
you can either drive them in or have them hoiked off the back of your wagon
its elv approved the one i use and the destruction notice is logged at point of visit direct to dvla so no nasties in 6 months time
clean scrap steel is a lot more money
heavy like girders even more
scrap price has been up for 6 months now

The brakes had something very odd about them. It was not "brake fade", nor water in the fluid. I do not know what it was, but I suspect a master cylinder problem (worn piston "seal", perhaps?). It also had a rust problem - I jacked up the OSR, and the jacking point disappeared into the sill. The exhaust was blowing - middle section. Various bits of trim inside were letting go. I had to bodge up the heater blower motor by dismantling it and replacing the brushes - but the commutator was extremely worn. The car still looked nice, though. It had only done about 178K miles, the engine was sound, but the rest was not as good!

Now I've a nice VW Passat 1.8 petrol. 57K on the clock! Unbelievable, eh? 5 months T&T for £350.

What I actually want is a Citrowen Dispatch (or Fiart Scudo, or Pewgeot Expert) 2.0 HDI Window Van, with 3 seats in the front. They're rare in this configuration, by the look.

I'm scrapping mine soon, so a nice little lump sum towards the next car's tax will be handy.

Or a good night out on the razzle!

I can remember a few years ago having to pay to have a scrap car collected. I negotiated free collection by removing all the body fluids myself first, together with plastic trim etc, so it was just metal.

The only time I have scrapped a car was when some places were charging to take them, there were a few places that were offering about £20 but wouldn't collect, fortunately one scrap yard within walking distance would take it for free.

I drained most of the petrol first and put on a set of wheels with worn tyres and sold the decent tyres/wheels on ebay, so at least I got something back.

Sadly, the days when RR was a razzler are long gone :-(
