Driving my truck back from the further reaches of the county, I was blimmping along a very straight road, stuck behind a tractor, decided to leave a gap large enough for the increasingly long tail of traffic behind me, providing a leap frogging opportunity for the adventurous driver. At the end of the straight the local council are building a cycle-path (courtesy of Hampshire tax-payers) - there were two sets of traffic lights - we sailed through the first set on green and the second set loomed. Assuming the tractor was on a local journey, I decided to pull in to a bus stop I know was approaching to allow the tailback some freedom. The lights were situated right on the nearest end of the lay-by, the lights were changing just as I approached, the tractor sailed through and I followed planning to swing in the bus stop as planned. It soon became apparent that the tractor/trailer combo driver had the self same idea and tidily filled the bus stop and left me high and dry with approaching traffic...I expertly pulled into the coned off lane (this being the only option) and I could feel the heat from my face warming the cab.....:-(
