Happy as I am with the A3 there are a few bills coming up. Now, initial thoughts were to just spend the money.......however......Fiat have just sent me a revised price list for cars registered by the end of the year.

I guess it must be slow and its a last ditch attempt to register stock by year end. The Punto's are very cheap, and I've always quite liked them, but I was wondering if anyone here has any experience of them or an opinion on what they are like.

I know they are not going to be class leading like a fiesta, but they are cheap and stacked with kit

I've never been disappointed with a small FIAT Mikey. It's what they do best.

Edit - might be too small for you but apparently there are fab deals on Citroen C1s right now ( like 7 grand new ) 60 mpg no VED and quite fun looking things.

Ahh, thanks. Fully aware that this is not class leading and in reality its a pretty old model now, but is stacked with kit so need to consider if I could put up with some of the shortcomings. I dont "need" a new car, but will be in the realms of spending a few hundred on the A3 soon. Punto would be a cheaper overall proposition to run and with warranty no real risk

I quite like the idea of a small Fiat, and the Punto is plenty big enough for my frame. Not tried a C1 for size.

All Fiats have decent discounts at the moment, but 500 is to small (colleague has one and he just looks daft in it) Panda - mmmm, not to sure and the Bravo is way to expensive

Its primarily for my journey to / from work and the reality is that I spend some time in traffic so performance is not really an issue, although about 6 miles is motorway on an incline so need to consider which model would suit best.

Big discounts and nominal finance rates are making them a very cheap option, but I'm trying to not get blinded by the headline figures!

I've not driven the latest Panda but the "old" ones ( like Rattle's ) are great wee cars. Had loads of hired ones and loved driving them. I'd bet the new ones are even better.

Also recently had a 500L on hire which was really very good and a lot roomier. Goodness knows why but I was looking at mildly second hand 500Ls recently and they can be had for around £10,000. Styling might be an aquired taste but they are at least different and seem quite good. Plenty of room in them anyway and not unpleasant to drive. I prefered the interior stying to the exterior but then again that's where you sit so...

My pal borrowed his mother's C1 for a few weeks this summer when he was between cars and while he normally runs around in large estates ( and indeed does again now ) he really liked the little Citroen for dashing about the Somerset lanes. ( That's near you I want to remember ? ) It was though in the end just too small for him as a category of car ( he has 3 kids )

Or...what about some form of Dacia? that jeepy thing they're doing looks like a good buy for the money. Suddenly lots of them here in Cheshire you know. They do like their SUVs here of course. I expect it's all those steep speed humps to climb and the 2 days when there is an inch of snow on the ground for up to an an hour each year !

Not the best car FIAT have ever made but very good value. The Evo model improved the trim and engines a lot. Cannot comment on the reliability as it shares a lot with the GM platform it is not a true FIAT, but if you get one with an 8V FIRE engine you should have no problems with the mechanics. Not sure if they still make the 8V on the Punto though.

It is one of those cars that I would never seek out, but if it was offered to me a very good deal and I wanted a bigger car I would more than happily own one. It just needs to be cheaper than the Fiesta etc to make it worth while.

Had my Panda for 3.5 years now and has been a great little car to own.

It seems the 8v is still being made. Must be the only mainstream 8V engine still in production!

No! Buying a brand new car is never going to be cheaper than getting a few more years out of the old one. A typical Poverty spec Punto costing £10K will lose about £6K over 3 years.
Of course, possibly less hassle and warranty comfort but not cheaper. I'm not saying don't change but if you want to just save money, keep what you've got.
I'm a Fiat fan too by the way, great drivers'cars. I love taking our daughters little Panda for a spin! And a piece of cake to work on.

10 grand buys a lot of little cars, not just FIATs.

That Juke's cheap Lygo ! My wife wants one of those. I'm still not sure about the looks of it but she likes them.

My daughter has had a Panda since new in 2009. Done about 30,000 miles and has had only routine servicing, new front tyres and new brake pads. I had the use of it for about six months and it was great fun to drive and felt solidly enough built. Yes, I would buy a small FIAT without hesitation, well depending on deal available etc.

Just checked the small print. It's all about the finance deal they want you to take. ( on Lygonos' link )

Not talking 10K here, sub 8.5 with climate, cruise and Bluetooth chucked into the deal along with nominal rate finance i.e. £115 up front plus £115 a month.

If 10K was the budget then others would come into consideration, but the pricing is swaying me :-)

Not a fan of the Mazda. Sure its a fine car, just floats my boat less than other offerings and the spec looks closer to the Punto Pop so it would have to be sub 7.5K to compete

Phoned local dealer so popping in tomorrow for a test drive and to discuss what stock is around.

Quite like the idea of the twinair but I gather they can be a bit thrashy and higher fuel consumption than you would expect
