Up here in Scotland we are getting some light winds.....

See the photo half way down page - I would not like to be that lorry driver, especially on the very high Friarton Bridge!!

I can sympathise with that
BTW are all Scots newspapers musical ?

Sadly a lorry driver has been killed in another accident where the lorry has been blown over.
Which raises all the same old questions, why were they out in the wind in the first place.?
For last 3 days we have been getting warned of these winds, for last 24 hours warnings were all over the place , first item in news.
Sadly someone felt they needed the money, or were scared to say no to their boss or whatever the scenario may be. But it means that someone has gone to work today and isn't coming home. And the lorry also collided with two cars resulting in injuries there as well.
Some accidents are unavoidable, some just happen, but I believe this was totally avoidable.
Last night the rail companies advised that there would not be a train running in Scotland before 7am due to the winds. Trains started to run but were immediately pulled this morning when the extent of the risks involved were uncovered.
We don't like granny states, we don't like being told what to do, but is there times like this, to protect vulnerable lorry drivers, that instructions from govt, police or whoever are required to ban all vehicles over a certain height?

Finger points toward the transport manager, in many cases.
>>is there times like this, to protect vulnerable lorry drivers, that instructions from govt, police or whoever are required to ban all vehicles over a certain height?
Trains and boats and planes don't operate in adverse conditions, so yes, with the weather that was well forecast 'up there', high lorries should have been kept orf the highways - until conditions improved.

??? - awaiting the punchline.........

Most certainly yes there is.

As soon as I opened the link I was greeted with Christmas music...

That'll be the advert/video that starts playing straight away then.
It's only been a bit windy around here - but enough to blow a 20 foot tree over down the road from us. Just pushed over. Often cars parked alongside where it is so lucky it's not blown onto a car. Would have caused enough damage even though it's not a huge tree.

Been pretty bad here, a lorry has overturned on the M60 (Barton Bridge) why it wasn't closed I don't know, it is quite common for lorries to over turn there.
A load of slates have fallen on our front garden too and I have no idea where they have come from. It must be really bad in Scotland.
|
The Barton Bridge can be windy at the best of times - so I'm not surprised something overturned.
I hope those tiles aren't from your roof! Lucky they didn't hit anything or anyone.
Whether it's weather related but Deansgate in Manchester was shut in both directions earlier.
Edit: Looks like Thelwall Viaduct close. M66 closed one way near Junction 1 due to overturned lorry. Deansgate was/is closed because of an unsafe building.

It better not be from our roof, that part of the roof was only completely re-slated just under two years ago.
Again with Deansgate it appears something has fallen of a roof.
Wind seems to have eased now though.

Might be an idea to go and check outside now the wind has died down a bit.

If they're in your front garden there's a limited number of places thy can have come from. They're jolted off the roof 'cos the whole thing flexes in wind. Once moving they obey gravity pdq.

Bromptonaut... my thoughts too. But maybe they came off next door. Fingers crossed Rattle.

Already had a look but I can't see anything obvious.
