Volvo V70 2000
Frequently V70 automatics show a gearbox fault. Its the 55-something, or the something-55 gearbox.
The entire world will tell you its terminal and the car is worthless. Or quote you £2,000 to sort it.
Actually rather a lot of the time its a £22 sensor held in by a single 10mm bolt. Its right on top of the gearbox as you look at it leaning into the engine bay from the front and is trivial to replace.
Its actually quite worth investing in a sensor and then using it to help you decide which cheap V70 with a gearbox fault to buy.
I'll do a better job of describing it if it ever matters to anybody.

BMW E39 528i
This can show an expensive fault on the self-levelling suspension fault.
Which is otherwise called a frayed sensor cable where it crosses over the rear bulkhead. Bit of a git to reach, but about 50p to fix.
Under the back seats, under the carpet, and the wire comes out of the floor (the sensors are on the rear suspension by the back wheel) and then dips back down to the electronics in the boot.
Bit of insulating tape, and there you go.
Sufficiently easy to check that you can do it on a test drive. (more difficult to fix).
