External aerials. Why on non convertibles? - henry k
Are "shark fin" aerials for built in Sat Navs just to indicate " I have a more expensive model"
i.e. willy waving?
My X type has no external aerials and both the the radio and Sat Nav work for me but I have not ventured into the wilds.
I note that the 2008/9 face lift X type does have a sharks fin fitted ( nor a Rolls).

Modern stereo's often have 'antenna diversity' for better reception, which needs two aerials. On my Octavia hatch there is both a roof aerial and some of the elements in the rear window are also used. On the estate they are on the side glass, I think.

me i have an unlimited data plan on the phone and can have any radio station from anywhere in the world pumped into my car stereo and reception is good and no external car antenna needed
need to keep the phone plugged into the car so battery stays charged, other than that easy peasy

Nothing new is there, I've a WW2 radio with diversity reception, and I bet it wasn't the first either.

The point of DAB, WdB is to get Radio 5Live (and 6Music) in to my car in an audible form. Although reception does get a bit tetchy on the outskirts of a certain wannabe designer hellhole, due to surrounding topography (Winter Hill). But then FM and MW always had transmission flat spots too. As does the interweb for radio streaming. Nothing's perfect.
>>Oh. Isn't it? I always thought it was an excellent Subaru addition to the heated rear window.
Where would my radio antenna be then? ... I was a'thinking a heating element on the nearside rear side window is/was a great idea for when I exit my little country lane onto a road with blind corners to the left and right, frequented by the local nutters hurtling along with, eh, gay abandon.
