why the hell don't they drive round it? Surrounding fields look quite firm.

Wonder if they had put their newest tyres on the back????

I expect an irate Russian farmer with an assault rifle might not be terribly pleased when his fields become the new road.
Those two 4x4's that tried to extend the road by going round didn't fare so well, even the dozer was having to use the blade to stop itelf being dragged deep at one point trying to extracate one.
What a mess, i bet its like thate every year, and when summer comes turns into a rock hard dust storm, causing more damage to the vehicles.
Note the lack of Land Rovers..:-))

You can't see them - they have already dug themselves in.
You can see now why Napoleon and Hitler found it tough going.

Toyota seems to be the 4X4 to have if your life may depend on its reliability. Land Rovers are just fashion statements these days.

Every local armed militia use them, they have to be the DB's

Funny in a not so funny way, in my previous job we carried lots of Army Defenders, took them from production into specialist works where certain systems were fitted, and master electrical switches, then moved them on later.
Time after time when you tried to start these things, they would fail to turn over requiring turning off the master switch and back on again, doesn't sound much but a valuable 5 seconds fumbling about must seem like a lifetime when you have a brace of Hilux's (bet they've got no such rubbish fitments) full of armed to the teeth baddies bearing down on you at warp speed.
Why would you, on a vehicle designed for military purposes, put any system on there which could impede its instant starting and get the hell out of it ability?
|
It must be an anti theft device, not that any self respecting baddie would be seen dead in a Land Rover. :-)
|
:-)))
It was an old fashioned battery master switch (removable red handle) fitted just under the drivers seat, that wasn't the problem in itself it was i suspect the standard Rover plipper type immobiliser still doing its thing.
Not what the soldier under fire need to be poncing about with IMO, he/she needs an easily visible button labelled start and instantly not 10 seconds later when computer says yes.
I bet whoever orders this stuff wouldn't be quite so cavalier if it was their back sides at the sharp end, but then that always been the case.

There used to be a late night tv programme on Eurosport called Truck Trial - I used to see it while bottle feeding my nearly 18 year old, so it was a long time ago.
The heavyweight category was invariable won by ex Russian Army 8x8 trucks, which were seemingly unstickable. The should have used something similar to clear up in the video.

I really felt for the 4WD driver who took it too wide so that his driver's side fell into the deeper, more liquid, crap. He didn't manage to get his window up and the bottom of the opening dipped into the mush !
Not good for the upholstery !
Surprised to see, on the back of the tanker, ' South Coast Tankers ' in English. I wonder where he came from ...............Eastbourne ?
