 Trundling. - R.P.
Took my 27 foot 4.5 tonner for a trundle down the length of the A55 (visiting a specialist van conversion firm the other side of N Wales) - it was a straight 65 mile trip (one way) the van usually cruising in its sweet zone of 55 mph - Not a speed I often trundle at and you can't help notice a couple of irritants. Cars that inhabit the "zone of invisibility" - beyond the scope of the giant door mirrors - I could just make out their shadow on the road behind me.....and cars that are trundling even more than I was - seem to be cruising at 45 to 50 mph - must be really irritating for regular truck drivers. THey have my sympathy.

The one at Minfford RP?, used to take Berlies there LPG conversions, they make some serious motorhome conversions...coach based million poind jobbies by the look of them.

No the other end in Deeside - firm called DeeFab. I know of the one in Minffordd - they couldn't do what we wanted. By the way there were a good half dozen car-transporters parked up on the eastbound carriageway (empty) which way is the Irish trade now ? Seems motors are pretty expensive there these days.

Afraid i haven't got the foggiest, its been nearly 4 years since i got out, few Irish companies working almost exclusively in the mainland and into close Europe.

It is I am sure and my sympathy also as they battle to get back to base under the tyranny of those tachos, and don't forget all the other drivers who are held up by the truckers who take quite while to overtake these trundlers esp on dual carriageways. M/A42 was a pain for this tonight - and A 14 is all day every day. If only the trundlers would do a couple of mph more, but they seem oblivious to the hold-ups they cause.

Rightly or wrongly, truckers and indeed other road users will have to get used to more trundlers if the price of fuel increases. On a recent trip from Essex to Devon and then onto Cornwall, I noticed more vehicles travelling well under NSL than I've ever seen before.
Mind you it could just have been the laid back driving style of West Country drivers!

Much more likely. Trundling in Essex? Most seem hell bent on using as much fuel as possible the way they accelerate and brake violently.

Even though I live in glorious Suffolk, I wouldn't say anything derogatory about Essex folk. My old friend Col (immaculate BMW520d) lives in north Essex though, and he says that he is thoroughly ashamed of south Essex people ;-)

You are not wrong...it's about the only thing that still gets to me.

I don't mind them mimsing along, free world and all that...it's just that they don't exactly help you out if you want go faster... and they could, so easily.

You still get the odd one that will automatically flash you after you've overtaken...what on earth for?...... (if you are to accept there's nothing inherently wrong with the actual manoeuvre itself)

The other thing is mini-roundabouts...the three way "after you", "no after you"....etc.

"If you can't see my mirrors, I can't see you" - very common on the back of HGVs and Artics here.

Probably around 1987 i reckon MD, judging by the Leyland Constructor which should really have been badged Scammell maybe a little later say '89?

Yes i think you're right Nick, i'd moved on from the job with a Contructor Rolonoff lorry by then, it would indeed have been earlier 80's, changed jobs within the company and came off the rolonoffs around '83.

But thanks for nothing for reminding me how much older i am than i try to convince meself, 1987 didn't seem quite so depressing..;)
