I had an hour to spare in Coventry today, so went to the transport museum.
Free entrance, and well worth a visit.
I was particularly intrigued by the Ferguson R4. This was a 4x4 prototype, and allowed the system to be developed (as later fitted to the Jensen Interceptor). I hadn't realised that it had a 2.2 flat four engine.

Nor me - I thought they had big American V8s..

The Jensens did have V8s - the 2.2 flat four was in the Ferguson R4 (as in the photo).

Bet it sounded pretty different...in those days, ugly enough for me to like it !

Looks like it should have a STANDARD badge on it to me.

I remember it, just. Knew it was interesting but at that age was pretty mainstream. Roly poly thing...
Of course it had the makings of a great car, but Ferguson didn't have the money to mass-produce it and the diminishing number of other makers had too much invested in their own models.
It would have been a bit expensive and for connoisseurs of a certain type. Ferguson used the system in an unsuccessful racer I think and Jensen used the whole system, but with a Chrysler V8, in the rare, flawed FF.
I knew someone who had an FF, but never went in it.
