A forum brain pick if I may? A young guy who works for us is getting married in September. His dream "going away car" is an E-Type.
He has tried all the firms who advertise the hire of classic or supercars he can find in the car mags etc but unfortunately can't find one who has an E-type available to hire that weekend.
I've suggested he might find a Jaguar owner's forum and post on there to see what response he can get but I just thought I'd chuck the notion on here in case anyone has any suggestions beyond that?
He's based in the south west near Bath.
Anyone know a man who can sort of thing?
Thanks !

He should change the wedding date then.
|
How far is he planning to 'go away'? ;-)
|
A former colleague of mine runs a fleet of old cars for this purpose in the Stratford-upon-Avon area, which isn't too far from Bath. May take till tonight but I'll dig out what details I have. Pretty sure he's mentioned an E-type roadster among them.

Age?? & driving history?

Google finds this one near Bath.

(Just in case he uses Bing).
MM is probably right - change the wedding day.

Move up to the F-Type if all else fails: www.supercar-experiences.com/vehicles/jaguar/f-type.html No connection.
Minimum age 25. Insurance excess £4000.

Thanks for the replys so far. (He's 30 and as far as I'm aware has a clean licence.) Not sure changing the date is a runner !

You've never had a mother-in-law then?
|
Usually the idées fixes that often dominate and sometimes spoil weddings come from a bridezilla type, but I suppose there must be a few groomzillas too...
Even if I thought the E Type the best sports car ever made (I certainly don't) I wouldn't feel I had to get married in one.
Humph, why don't you put it to yr young colleague that an XK120, 140 or 150 might be easier to book and would be just as good in almost every way (better in my opinion because they are all better looking than the E Type and more genuinely elegant)?

'I said a ROADSTER! This one's got a ROOF FA CHRISSAKE!
My BIG DAY - RUINED! I was so upset I SEIZED HER BY THE THROAT AT THE ALTAR! Now she says she wants a divorce! BOO HOOO!'
and so on...
|
Cancel the wedding........use the dosh to buy an E Type.
Lasting happiness............until it rots away !

I know a guy who had an e-type, and had the fairy tale "going away" in it, with the bride throwing her flowers out the top to the bridesmaids
It went away ok, he lost it in the divorce.

I don't know if this is the one in Warwickshire that was mentioned:

I've seen their E type and it is lovely ....
|
There's more room in an XJS and it looks the part for that sort of event.
But then, I would say that, wouldn't I?
I have a friend in Somerset who is an XJS specialist - just a thought...

Thanks again guys, I've been forwarding him the links some have found here today. He's really set on an E-Type. Childhood dream or something.
His call. I'd not be so fussy. Having said that we went to the south of France on our honeymoon in my Westfield.
I think he just wants it for 2 or 3 days though.

Ok, thanks both. Forwarded link to our chap earlier.

I drove my best man in the soon to be Mrs RP's then new MX5 and then drove her to the reception - that was an interesting journey....! Have some snaps somewhere...

We Unnymooned in my Cooper 970S. Nice car for all the twisties in Scotland in '69.

Did Cornwall by train, but subsequently had a tent in the back of the Vitesse.
|
Our "getaway" car was a tad unusual; we were supposed to be using the GMC pick-up but due to a delay getting a windscreen seal it wasn't ready in time.
Fortunately the guy who was doing the rebuild lent me something a tad more comfortable. If you fancy a laugh, here's the video;

Excellent Harleyman. Nice weather a big bonus. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, Mrs HM arrived in a 1933 Railton.

Warringtons have done a fine job of look after all my family's cars for more than 30 years!
