Our Rob likes his scooters, here's a lambretta with a little more style than usual that might appeal to him.

I paid 3.5K for it

Its true! There is one born every minute!

Worth every Krone I'd say.

I won't say it's the most hideous thing I've ever seen, but it's very, very close.

Why anyone would take a presumably ok scooter and do that to it escapes me. The front forks look ready to snap at the weld joining them to the head tube at the slightest bump in the road. Still if one wants to kill oneself, it looks like a way of doing it!

The free cover he's throwing in is worth more than the bike.

Love hate relationship with Scooters now - now that one, well all I can say most motorcyclists now have some modicum of respect for Italian Scooters - but there are limits...!
A Bike For RP - Harleyman
I've seen some very neat scooter chops, of which this is not an example.

You can say that again Hogman... you wouldn't even have forks like that on a hawg (even if some do)...

I thought it was going to be a chromed one with about 100 air horns on the front. They used to have them like that back around 1960 on... but any vehicle person was a rocker at heart. A thing with a bit of ability, knowImean? Scooters are just urban runabouts.

Most of the members of British (and European) scooter clubs, who knock up considerable mileages attending their rallies, might find issue with that.

I've long held a theory that Harley riders and scooterists have much more in common than one might initially suppose; both focus as much on the attendant lifestyle as on the actual machine itself, and in both cases art frequently overcomes functionality where the custom scene is concerned.

Still not buying a parka though. ;-)

Yes, noticed that of course, but the less ornate Harleys can be capable although I haven't heard of them racing. Rockers of course were on BSA/Triumph/AJS/Norton and so on, all capable and not usually blinged-up. Biker gangs have their own styles. Once saw some Sussex Road Rats in a pub near here who all had 3 cylinder 2-strokes, Japanese I suppose, with racing sheep's-ear handlebars, painted matt black all over including the engine.

Never been a biker but worked with a couple of friendly ones in my youth. One had a BSA Gold Star 500 and gave me a memorably terrifying lift from Radstock to Bath on its pillion... No helmets or leathers. That engine had a lot of poke but needed some attention to the balance, vibrated insanely. Perhaps all powerful singles do.

Parka schmarka. Thick leather, that's what you want once you get old enough to twig that you aren't immortal or made of steel.

They do, and some have achieved considerable success over here; but more in the USA as one would expect.

If you like speedway you'll like this!

I know of a couple of those XR's in the UK which have been made road-legal; not difficult to achieve as they were developed from the Sportster model. Indeed, an acquaintance of mine in South Wales owns one of the rarest Harleys of all, the prototype XR which bears the serial number XR1. It is a labour of love which took him over 20 years to complete, having acquired the engine in a road-going bike by chance and then tracking the original frame and cycle parts down by sheer persistence. Here's a treasured pic of my good self astride the beast at a rally in 2006.....

Even Sonny Barger is very critical of Harleys, reckoning Japanese bike are superior in all departments. He stated the reason Hell's Angels ride Harleys is because that was all that was readily available in the states when the club was first formed.

A mate's got a Heritage Soft tail classic, not really my cup of tea as it handles like an aircraft carrier, but I'd prefer one to a scooter or one of those Starship Enterprise things Honda make.

Gosh! Do tell.
I'm struggling to imagine something else that manages to encompass such levels of danger and sheer ugliness in one vehicle.

Comprehensive review of the Bike fleet has been undertaken over a few beers tonight - off tomorrow on leave as it's my birthday, and a bike ride to the local Triumph dealer - looking to replace the ER-6 and the Scooter with a Triumph Street Triple, beautiful little minimalist bike with an engine note to die for.....
 A Bike For RP - Robin O'Reliant
A fantastic looking bike Rob. And you're right about the engine note from Triumph's three cylinder lump, it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Everything should be made to sound like that, even your watch.
A Bike For RP - Fenlander
Older guy who works for Mrs F has a few bikes at any one time and has just swapped his Harley of many years for a Street Triple. That Triumph is stunning in every way.
A Bike For RP - Harleyman
Have to admit it's one of the few bikes I'd swap a Harley for too.... especially one of the earlier ones in black.
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
I rather fancy a white ones (easier to spot at roundabouts !)
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
Well popped to Woody's in Abergele - a well-regarded dealer down the coast - as expected jam packed with Saturday riders/browsers - A vast selection of new and second hand Street Triples in the place - much trying of bike by Mrs RP - who was surprised how light they felt after the ER6 (183 Kg versus 179 Kg on the Kwaker) seems that Triumph designers have slung it low to reduce the CoG. There were brand new 2013 R versions plus some 2012model year "new" ones. Initially booked a test ride for next Saturday - but this has been brought forward to tomorrow.

Amazing how much facts sale staff store - Anna the sales person, knew wet, dry weights, seat heights the lot off pat - didn't have to look anything up. If only car-dealers could be this enthused/bothered. I feel my bank balance reducing....ER6 now up ob various sites for sale..
 Hunting in pairs.... - R.P.
Well, took the GS and ER6 over to Abergele (approx 45 mins along a packed A55) - we were a little late, the plan was for a shared ride, i.e. one of the riders on the Kwaker, the other on the demo Street Triple but when the saleswoman saw both of us with our licences - she asked wether we wanted two demo bikes for the afternoon, pay for your own fuel no time limit... So off we went. Both bikes were the "R" version, one was a fully kitted out. First impressions were of being on 125s -albeit with monster reserves of power - absolutely first rate once we got onto the bendy A roads - phenomenal bikes with oodles of performance ( 70 mph equates to around 4k - redlined at 12500 rpm !) - flickable, and easy to position, plenty of overtaking oomph....

Engine sound is important to me and that three exhausting through a clip on Arrow exhaust was superb....

Man maths indicate affordability, real world maths to be done.

Expected the GS to feel like an old nail on the ride home - but no it doesn't, it just goes to show what an overwhelmingly stunning bit of kit the GS is when it can hold its own against a scratching pocket rocket.....in fact in comfort the GS has the edge without losing any of the sheer riding pleasure...
 Hunting in pairs.... - R.P.
Forgot to add - build quality - more in Honda territory than anything else I've ridden (Including BMW) - it feels right - I often think of something mechanical as being made to feel like a Swiss watch - this feels more Omega than Rolex, but a tribute to the brilliant UK motorcycle industry....look out Japan.

>A vast selection of new and second hand Street Triples in the place..

A neighbor came home with one today. Looks mean in black and sounds even meaner.
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
We had to fuel up before going for the trip - Mrs RP thought there were a couple of bikes behind her in the queue - she looked round to check, not so it was her machine shouting through that wonderful exhaust...

This was the test beast. Ours will be with the same colour scheme and ABS.

Have you got it yet Rob.
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
We were all geared to pick it up yesterday afternoon - dealer phoned to say that there was a problem with DVLA registering it because of hiccup with Triumph and a recall notice issued on that frame number :-( Pick it up tomorrow now hopefully...
A Bike For RP - MD
0-60 3.30. Mmmmmmmmmmmm lovely.
A Bike For RP - Fullchat
Looks sweet Rob. Love my Triumph triple to the extent when the FJR arrived it was supposed to go but it's still there :)
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
Still waiting - Dealer's getting embarrassed now, should be ready tomorrow, looks as if they're now willing to deliver on Wednesday. (Dealer is a 70 mile round trip - no hardship on a bike but a bind in the car !)
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
Being delivered tomorrow PM. I have a meeting after work so won't be home until around 6.30pm - Not insured to ride it yet, needs sorting....:-(
A Bike For RP - Armel Coussine
But you can rev it up in the living room Rob...
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
Arrived this afternoon - delivered along with complimentary branded polo shirts ( 1 each) - I was in a meeting until 7.30 so neither of us have got to ride it.....yet. Having had a poke around it, very well - in fact, beautifully made. Lovely piece of work. Just revved it up in the garage - a bit...keeping my pop star neighbour awake, Rock and Roll..

Have I missed something?

You live next to Garry Glitter?!

It's arrived - at last !

Now go ride it !!

Providing you got the insurance sorted of course :)
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
I haven't at the moment - been busy and raining here last couple of days - sun's come out. There was a beer/bike/beer/bike/beer/bike moment earlier - beer won.
 A Bike For RP - Robin O'Reliant
Not pillion friendly, RP?
 A Bike For RP - R.P.
Mrs RP passed that comment earlier - in fact my GS is configured for single occupancy - not keen on pillions....

??? That's an armchair. There's loads of space on there.

Nice bike ! Are you going to dump all that plastic at the back and put a tail tidy on ?

Interesting Triumph have gone for Nissin brakes when the Japanese manufacturers are fitting Brembo.

S'nice.

Still upright then...

With both mirrors, Humph, both mirrors.

Lovely looking bike. Way out of my league performance wise though.

"Lovely looking bike."

Wholly different from my '58 T21 festering in the garage! Mind you, our house was built by the same bloke!
