Ive just done a check on the MOT history for the Carina. Interesting reading. Seems last year the car had alot of advisories but this years MOT had none at all so presumably most if not all the work has been done.
A VERY useful service from VOSA I must say, id never hear of it until today, maybe Im just ignorant! Gives not just the date of test but location, mileage and a list of advisories.

Funny that the advised the rear wiper was perished, given that its not part of the test... hmm.

Advisories seem completely erratic with no uniform standard. I have known different testers who "specialise" in particular things - heat shield missing, shock absorber cover corrosion, etc but a year later a different tester ignores them.

I always just use my own judgement whether an advisory is worth putting right. Tyres nearing the legal limit is an obvious useful warning, but a passenger wiper blade becoming a bit flaky I replace in my own time when it matters.

The MOT history is useful when buying a car with a new MOT. You can look back and see that actually the new clear MOT with no advisories was in fact a retest after a dramatic failure with dozens of advisories. It sort of gives an impression that the car was neglected and things only fixed as a last resort.

The useful thing for me was I had 5 years of mileage entries. Back in 2005 my car had 71600 miles on it and only had 77000 when I bought it - now I can see just how few miles it was doing. Since I bought it ive done more miles in it in a few weeks than its done usually over a two year period.

The advisories is also essentially a free pointer of things to check specifically. Mine had alot of corroded brake pipes most of which do now appear to be nearly new. Perished NSF tyre never got done though, I had to spot that ( and the other two ).
