 Fuel question - Rudedog
Went to fill up at my local Shell station today, I usually like to use the Fuelsave Diesel, but today I noticed that stickers had been put over the the name plates and it said that they were having supply problems and would be using Regular Shell diesel instead. Stupidly I had assumed that all standard Shell diesel was now of the Fuelsave type, any ideas what would have caused the shortage? maybe a shortage of the special additive that turns Regular into Fuelsave or is that too simplistic?

This has also been the case at my local Shell station for several months.

My experience too, in Bracknell, near Heathrow and on the Hampshire-Sussex border.

Now, who can say that the Fuelsave stuff actually makes (made?) a measurable difference?

I can't, but some of the chaps here seem to think it might (have done).

Well my Golf seems to like it, feels a bit smoother on it and MPG seems to be better by several digits, smells nicer as well :)

Do you seriously believe that Bloggs petrol is demonstrably better than Blanks petrol?

If that were so, don't you think that Bloggs Fuels PLC would have commissioned tests by an independent laboratory and screamed the results at us from every advertising hoarding and TV set in the country?

Puhleese!

Reminds me of the mid 80's and Formula Shell petrol:

Ah yes, the stuff that burnt out the valves and valve seats on Vauxhall heads.

I still avoid Shell petrol if at all possible because of what happened then.

Ran a Formula Ford Kent engine on Formula Shell for just 500 miles and the engine rebuilder said he had never seen such valve damage in so short a time.

Formula Shell brought me in some work of course - as a mobile car engine tuner, not that I stripped engines down.

The £20 diagnosis fee came in handy though.

I dont, but then I drive a car that does not have an engine made of cheese.
