In essence, the poor old chap didn't pay his 60 pence parking ticket. His costs are now £790 and he doesn't appear to be giving up yet...

>>Mr Payne, who says he has challenged 40 parking tickets in the past

Sounds like a complete idiot.

I haven't had 40 parking tickets in my entire life.

Without looking at the link, I'd say retired/semi retired, 60+, a self taught legal expert in such matters also including bin collections and well known to the council.

Crikey. Someone even more wrong than me. Well done, sooty.

Well I was miles out, oh well :-)
When someone else typed out a brief summary, it reminded me of a case involving a lecturer who took a speeding fine to some European court on the basis on some odd scientific point. I think it cost him tens of thousands and still lost.

You must be very young and a stay-at-home then.

However you may be right about the (perhaps) aptly-named Mr Payne. He needs to get out less if he thinks 60p is worth grappling with the council over.

Investment banker could have paid £35 but ends up paying £790. Sounds about right.

My heart bleeds for the injustice this man has suffered.

No no, he's not done at £800. He's taking it to Crown Court, where, if he loses again, the fees will be considerable.

I wonder if there are punitive fees for wasting the Court's time?

As to parking tickets (touch wood) - none yet...been driving 33 years.

I don't think he was an investment banker, I thought he was IT for an investment bank?

" I thought he was IT for an investment bank?"

Youre right

Misleading headline

Appeal over 60p fee costs driver £790

Actually he is fighting against £35 penalty charge. The 60p is what would have the actual parking charge if he has bought the ticket while parking.

So a clear outbreak of sympathy from the car4play contributors then!
