Audi A4 Cabriolet - Service in 1 week or 5000 miles?! - Auntie Lockbrakes
The Audi seems to be on a servicing regime of yearly or every 10,000 miles... Now there's a week to go before its annual service is due, but it's only travelled 5000 miles in the past year, so what's the risk in waiting a few months to rack up some more km s first?

Car sat undriven for 4 months at the dealers after last October's service, so presumably I can exclude those 4 months from the calculation? :-)

Oh, and it was MOT'd less than 2 months ago, nothing untoward spotted at that time...

In 10 days time, the oil will lose all its lubricating properties, and the pollen filter will block up.

Oh, and the service history will become worthless.

One of those MAY be true.....

TBH, I'd get it serviced - skipping such things *might* be a false economy - service history and all that ?

It's only money after all......

I notice that our Aussie Golf VI has a 15,000Km (9,600miles) or 12 month service schedule and no condition based option is available even on diesels over here - maybe NZ is similar for VAG cars ? IIRC a UK Golf can do a few more miles between services before self-harming, or are we (in the antipodes) being conned ?

I'd leave it until it is due mileage wise, it won't hurt it one bit. What is the point in wasting money on service items that it doesn't require yet?

My car is now one year old - but done almost no business miles in 12 months so it's done about 10,000 miles. First service is due in just over a year or 9000 miles... if this was my car I'd want it servicing soon. A lot of miles are for short journeys so the car doesn't warm up.

If I was the OP I'd probably get it service pretty soon - I am assuming there is no warranty on this car. I suppose it also depends on what service it is and what that service entails.

Only you know how much attention is given to a service history at sale time where you live, if twer mine i'd buy some pukka oil and genuine filter and do a an oil change meself, or get an oil change done somewhere who'll use good stuff, keep receipt as proof.

Then leave till another 5k is done, probably another 8 months and get it serviced correctly then.

As a buyer i'd be happy to see some common sense servicing applied with a receipt for Gucci oil rather than just another stamp in the service book, i do not like seeing high mileages between oil changes whatever current fashion or leasing attractions dictates.
