The ole KIA's got 12" wheels and the tyres are becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to obtain.
I've found some suitable 13" wheels on ebay (the PCD's the problem), but they're a couple of hundred miles away near Darlington.
The seller won't arrange delivery.
Any ideas as to the cost of getting to me? They're four steel wheels without tyres.
Anyone in the locality prepared to collect them and arrange delivery? I'll fully reimburse any costs.

From their website " Collection and Delivery are not guaranteed but currently enjoy a 96% success rate. "
So 4% never get delivered? :)

The goods also need to be securely packaged, and this might be something the seller does not want to be bothered with. Can't say I blame him.

I would surmise that a thick plastic sack per wheel would sufice.
I would contact a local removal company and quiz them. I suspect they would know of a local small outfit that would collect bag and despatch them for a few ££s
|
They wont need much wrapping.
I sent 4 steel 16inch Jowett wheels to a mate in Edinburgh. I just laid them on top of each other and wired them together through the holes with welding rod.
Mind you, he was the franchise holder for Interlink Fife, so it didn't cost anything.
How much would 400 miles cost you ? Just treat it as a day out and take the family.

Please be serious, Ted.

Made a few 'phone calls. It would seem car parts are not liked and many won't touch them. Can't find anyone willing to oblige.

Maybe Pat knows a way or perhaps the local Rotary club might assist for a contribution to funds.

Buy a cheap old banger, up there, get the new wheels put on it, phone your recovery service, tell them its broken down, get them to recover it home, then remove wheels and scrap it! ;-) sorted!
|
Seems like alot of effort to avoid a run to Darlington tbh. Id be in the car already if it were me :-)
|
Ok, how about a C4P relay? I could get them from Leeds to south Cheshire on Friday this week for example. Anyone up for one of the other legs?
|
I could collect the ruddy things from Darlo easily enough, which would at least get them in 'our' hands, although I'm not sure where I could take them.
|
Iffy.
If your offering to get them, I'd be more than happy to pay your expenses (plus a pint or two) to bag them for a courier, who I could pay to deliver.
They're actually Ravensworth, Richmond. Darlington seemed the closest place I'd heard of down here south of Watford.
Mods. Feel free to pass my details to Iffy if requested.
|
It might be possible to sort something.
I suggest you forward an email with a phone number which will save a lot of typing.
|
Take a look at wheel carrier.co.uk
I've used them in the past with no problems.
|
I've got to go from Leics to Thirsk and back on Wednesday morning, if that can be worked into the plan :)
|
>>Take a look at wheel carrier.co.uk
They still need them packaged, which the seller ain't prepared to do.

So maybe a several stage process.
Buy the wheels and get them to a safe location.( an earlier offer)
Obtain packaging. A big strong bag for each? Royal mail sacks, Used feedstuff bags from a farmer? Then Electric tie round the neck and a label ( a wheely big label saying handle with car e) ?
Transport.
Rewards for assistance.
You know you can make it happen.

I managed to get rid of some nice Kia Sorento alloys a few months ago that were surplus and had been stored in the shed for about 3 years. Buyer arranged collection and the price was not too great. Certainly under £20. Humberside to Sussex. The carrier was City Link through Parcel Monkey.
I used those banana boxes you find in the supermarket. 2 boxes with 2 wheels sandwiched in between and a bit of packing. Mind you I overdid the packing a bit as they were alloys and not steel. I was hoping for 'buyer to collect' to avoid the packing hassle but in the end I had to pack them up to get the sale. The buyer was more than happy.

We could have a good system going here. I'd certainly help out if any forum members want wheels, etc, shifting around further sarf.

Try Nightfreight. They specialise in "odd" consignments.
Reason for car parts being unpopular is partly the trade in recon engines. Old units being returned aren't always drained as per request, with the inevitable results. There's also the issue of theft where car parts are concerned; easy to flog on e-bay.

Sorry Tom. I was a depot manager for them in a previous life and at that time a one-off for a private individual was OK.
Mind you they've gone downhill since I left... ;-)
|
If you search on "wheel delivery" on ebay you'll get quite a few hits.....34 pages worth! I'll leave it to you to sort through them ;-)
Or perhaps you're sorted with the help of a few C4P mates.
|
I've got back and found my bid was the winning one. They've cost me a couple of quid.
Iffy offered to collect them for me, but as they're fifty miles from him I've thanked him, but declined his offer (would I do the same for one of you?)
I'm going to see if I can locate a scout group or similar organisation in the vicinity (Ravensworth) and offer them a contribution (I'm thinking £20) to collect, package and wait for collection by a courier.
Failing that it looks like I'll be doing the 400 mile round trip next week.
|
50 smiles (x2 presumably) ain't nuffink to us country dwellers (compared to London & the S.E.)
4 undred is a lot of tarmac though - for a set of rusty blimmin wheels.

I wondered if the soft southern Jesse had failed to grasp the wide open spaces up here. :)
|
I do 60 miles (there & back) just to get my car serviced, it's quite an enjoyable drive though through Truro / Penryn / Falmouth (when the emmetts have gorn home!)
|
Where I used to live we'd make a 50 mile round trip for a decent chinese take away.
|
I remember talking to a resident of Skye about her monthly supermarket trip to Inverness.
Google maps shows it at about 120miles each way.
|
Blimmin Heck, I go up and down the A66 regularly, looks like it's only about a mile off the A66. If I can be of help I'm sure the mod's can pass on my email.
|
T junction.
What I'm looking for is someone who can collect the wheels for me, package them suitably for a courier (seems that tying them tightly together and putting in a bag or wrapping in cardboard's good enough) then leaving them to be collected. They're old steel wheels, not highly polished alloys, a few scratches are neither here nor there!
Unless of course if you're closer to Bedford, I'd gladly come and collect them (bottle of whisky?)
I haven't got the seller's address, they're not responding, so it may be later rather than sooner.
I'll email the mods and ask them to forward my details to you.
|
>>they're not responding
Probably got to out and nick a set now to fulfill your order...
:-)
|
Keep the wheels n' throw the car away (well, it is a Kia)
|
I'll put an ad in.
Anyone want some 12" wheels & tyres?
>>I'll email the mods and ask them to forward my details to you.
I guess the mods are all sleeping, or watching Jeremy's celebrity dancing east nation coach cooking hotel show.

Quick, let's all change our user names - that should confuse and annoy them when they come back.

Thanks
Tubby, Soft southern Jesse
you know!!!
|
Thanks to T junction collecting the wheels and his brother-in-law transporting them south, I've now got four 13" wheels sitting in my garage and Sainbury's are a couple of bottles lighter. Many thanks to both.
Now to find some remoulds!
|
Ive got some remoulds knocking about that were on the ex wifes Talbot Avenger, no idea how good they are though having been under a tarp for 6 years.
|
>>Ive got some remoulds knocking about
165 x 13s?
|
1 x 165/70 x 13 as new, and one 175/70 x 13 (still on wheel haven't a clue what it fits) brand new sitting here, you're welcome to either or both, road tyres not town and country, i'm a decent stroll from FoR.
|
Thanks gb, but Kingpins seem to be the flavour at the moment. I've experienced them and they do seem to grip well on the sort of surfaces I'll be using them.
|
No idea, ill have a look tomorrow.
|
Welcome back gord ~ long thyme no sea.
