I've just received an email for the Hein Gericke closing down sale in the UK after entering administration on 30th July.
I've always found their stuff to be pretty good. Could be a chance to pick up a bargain though have to feel for the staff.
This only affects the UK, the European operation is continuing.

It is a shame, we have quite a bit of their kit - excellent service in their Chester franchise. Superb owner there, knows his stock inside out and an enthusiast. We had a chat about going there to have look see....but decided against it.

I've got a pair of HG gloves I still use daily in summer which I've had for ten years and a pair of leathers which burst at the seam (due to the central heating making them shrink a couple of sizes ahem...). Must get them repaired.
Both still in good condition even if there is a bit more of me to cover.

That's a shame, their gear was top quality. Myself and Mrs RR still have the waterproof jackets we bought from their Ilford branch about twelve years back. Although I no longer have a bike they both see plenty of use as outdoor wet wear and neither have leaked a single drop.
Unlike much of the other "waterproof" stuff you can buy.

We're still trying to raise enough to buy Rover.

A forum dog? How do we do that one then? 1 day a week each? It'd get very confused.

I received the email yesterday and their website seems to have gone belly up. I have bought some gear there which was of good quality but I don't think the mass market is prepared to pay their prices.Terrible shame. Might have a look in tomorrow and see if they have some discounted Gortex trousers to match the jacket I got at the NEC. Feel like a bit of a Hyena though.

I was gutted to hear about this. Their kit is of excellent quality, and very well priced. My 'Pathan' winter gloves are 5 yrs old, and still in excellent condition. Quite capable of preventing even mild discomfort over a 20 mile ride in temperatures around zero degrees. Their Hiprotec armour also came out very well in various tests.
Friendly staff in my local branch, too. If these stores disappear, it won't be through lack of customer service or good products at fair prices.

Trousers bought to match jacket but no real bargains. 20% off which is usually what they are offering on regular promotions. Shop busy though. Staff are really hoping for a buyout. Strangely enough there were a few foreign accents around the store - Polish/German. I don't know whether that was just coincidental or there was some benefit for them to be had.

My experience too. Mrs H and I both have waterproof boots from HG; they don't leak a drop.

Maybe their stuff lasts too well for their own good and nobody has to buy replacements?
|
Would that be what was called 'kwalitee' in the old days.
When you didn't have to buy new because this seasons colour had changed from Blue to Orange.

See that the German arm of the company has 'bought out' the business and re-opened the following branches:
Manchester, Stockwell, Southampton, Edinburgh, Farnborough, Gants Hill, Glasgow, Belfast, Maidstone, Preston, Leicester, Braintree, Aberdeen, Hanger Lane, Oxford and Chiswick.
Probably the most profitable ones. Nearest for me is Manchester, tother side of the Pennines.

I drove past the Edinburgh branch a few days ago, it seemed to be a going concern with fully stocked windows and bikes parked outside.

Peterborough has gone but it was in a lousy position to park anyway.

I'm just glad we've got M&P in Swansea.
