Chaos in Surrey this weekend, and London for weeks - wotspur
So this weekend , I live between Walton and Weybridge, and the roads are going to be shut off from 05.00 - 20.00, maybe earlier , for both days, yes I'm looking forward to it, But !
Last year in the trial the roads were also shut, and from initial motorcade coming through the village, to the last bike going through, was a maximum of 30 minutes, the cyclists went though in 1minute maximum , so why are they shut for so long.
Anyone going to London, most parking meters are not useable, only residents with permits can park, and beware The Olympic Lanes, I reckon they'll make more money in that than from ticket sales

I was told directly by the powers to be 0400 start.

I asked that question directly to the power to be at a meeting and was told that things will be better on the day....the trial demonstated what additionally can be done to open the roads.
They did mention that some road furniture needs to be restored prior to reopening.
I guess some barriers removed etc.
They also said communications would be improved!. IIRC basics like more radios in the correct hands so the workers can more easily instructed and coordinated.
We will see.

I note that the roundabout at Hampton Court gates has been remodled. It is now flat and covered in very bright green grass.
It has now been remodled again by someone approaching from the M3 and flattening the Chevrons on their nice new poles!!!

There are plenty of "remodellings" going on. Traffic islands at either end of the brooklands road have been removed. The village of Byfleet gets completely cut off, no way in or out as the tour passes. No sign yet tho of the "blue road", has this been dropped?

Alas I shall be on Olympic duty elsewhere when the mens road race shoots through but off for the Womens on Sunday. Its a 5 minute walk from my pad, the dog I will will enjoy it.

I popped into Surbiton ( by train) this morning to experience the torch relay.
There were certainly lots of folks there.
(A couple of months ago, on the M2, I saw a strange sort of motor coach with a balcony at its back. Today I saw it again in the torch parade with bank adverts on it )

I saw the rehearsal of the bike race at Hampton Court and it was pretty crowded so I hope they have got things sorted for the big days.
