I have always included my wife (provisional license holder and rarely drives) in my policy as it reduced my premium compared to if I were insured alone. This is also endorsed by MSE site and worked always.

But on this year's renewal, I discovered that if I remove her from my policy then my premium falls by 20%.

Is this due to gender equality?

I guess computer code which calculates the premium must have been updated with all "female" entries replaced by "male".

The mother of two teenagers told me her research found it is no longer much cheaper to insure a female young driver than a male one.
