My elderly grandmother is quite ill as she had a fall a couple of weeks back so my parents have been going round daily to help me.
They went this morning and there is a knock on the door from a neighbour "I have just crashed into your car while reversing out of the drive"
Fluids leaking every where and it clearly needs a new bumper and front wing. Hyundia arranged for the RAC to come out and look at it, they said it needs new bumper, wing and possibly head light etc, but the leak is the screen wash, the impact cracked the screen wash container.
He reckoned it caused about £2000 worth of damage but said the car is drivable. It drives perfect.
The bloke did not want to claim on his insurance, but when my dad told him the damage may be upto £2k he changed his mind! Hopefully it will all get sorted and thankfully he was honest and admitted he caused the damage.
Either yet again it looks like I will be sharing my Panda.

As you say at least he admitted it ! Annoying though.

I would insist that it goes to a Hyundai main dealer body shop to be repaired, so that genuine panels and parts are used and the corrosion warranty isn't voided.
|
It is going to the dealer on Monday :) He is insisting that the Hyundai dealer fix it.
|
I would prefer to send it to a body shop who do this all day long rather than to a dealer who may only do co occasional body repair?
In fact do you get manufacturer specific body shops anymore??
|
Last accident I had was in my Smart Roadster. As it was only a few months old I requested it was sent back to Mercedes, but they sent the job onto a specialist body shop who it turned out was where the insurance co would have sent it anyway.
I dont think many dealers have body shops - they sub it out to the specialists

That is true, BUT... the bodyshop dealers use will be approved by the manufacturer, thus keeping the warranty intact.

The 3rd parties insurer should be providing your parents with a courtesty/hire car until theirs is fixed.

+1.
Also, while the Hyundai dealer may not have their own onsite body shop (only very large dealerships do), they will certainly have a nominated repairer who does all of their bodywork repairs to an agreed standard. New, even unregistered, cars get bumped at dealers all the time and need fixing before the customer sees them.

When you buy a new Hyundai the dealer will have given the buyer a key fob and associated paperwork for 'Hyundai First' with their phone number 0844 836 7381 and drivers are advised to call the number in circumstances such as these. They are there to deal with the accident and car hire. They say call them before calling your own insurer and they deal with claim forms, recovery and help getting home, ensure use of an Hyundai approved repairer using Hyundai parts, courtesy car, legal support if injuries, etc etc...all this is in the leaflet.
It says on the back...Hyundai Accident Aftercare is provided by Retentions UK Ltd (Rickmansworth). They in turn are an appointed representative of Original Insurance Services Ltd (regulated by the Ministry of Justice which is regulated by the FSA. And so it goes on. Whether I would contact them instead of my insurer I don't know - it hasn't happened to me (yet). But if Rattle's dad had seen this it might have saved him some concern?
|
Think that you will find that Hyundai first is just a credit hire company who are sporting hyundais name in exchange for some kick back.
Not always a bad thing though as my experience with help hire was positive

Similar issue for SWMBO a few years ago, old lady didn't stop at a roundabout and ran into the side of her car. I was on a flight to Inverness at the time.
Tesco as usual difficult to get hold of, she remembered Audi assist who took over and arranged recovery for the car and took to Audi approved repairer, provided replacement (A3 SE via third party).
One of reasons insurance costs are rising but when it happens to one close to you it is worth paying for.

Got the estimate today, the dealer reckons the damage is a lot less than the RAC. The bumper just needs a respray and new mounting brackets, apparently the wing is fine and just needs a new bracket.
It will need a new pump motor the screen wash possibly, and certainly a new bottle.
Quote was £493 including the respray and pump motor (if needed). It is up to the third party now if he wants to pay out of his pocket or via his insurance.
|
Maybe the RAC bloke factored in the Credit Hire costs and the whiplash claim from the person who wasn't in the car.....?

That's a tough one for the third party.
If it was me, I'd think about paying out of my own pocket, although the third party is obliged to inform his insurer whatever happens, so maybe there's no point in not claiming.
And the best part of £500 would go some way to paying a premium increase over the next few years.
As I said, it's a tough one.
|
And he could easily have a £250 excess to pay anyway.
