As a matter of principle, I refuse to be conned by the telegraph in to clicking multiple times to view their "best 10" or "worst 10" of this, that or the other. You can usually find their original source of the data in a more user friendly format.
In this case, multiple clicking is avoidable as the original source here shows:

Winners in each category
* Sub 1-litre = Ford 999cc three-cylinder turbo
(Also "New Engine award" and "International Engine of the Year")
* 1.0-litre to 1.4-litre = Volkswagen 1.4-litre TSI Twincharger
* 1.4-litre to 1.8-litre = BMW-PSA 1.6-litre turbo petrol
* 1.8-litre to 2.0-litre = BMW 2-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder petrol
* 2.0-litre to 2.5-litre = Audi 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo
* 2.5-litre to 3.0-litre = BMW 3-litre bi-turbo six-cylinder gasoline
* 3.0-litre to 4.0-litre = BMW M 4-litre V8
* Above 4-litre = Ferrari 4.5-litre V8
(Also "Performance Engine" award)
* Green Engine Award = GM 1.4-litre range extender
An excellent result for Ford to intrude into a mainly German showing.
For me, the real stars are BMW in winning 4 of the main 8 categories (albeit one in partnership with PSA)

Mmmmmmm - can't get excited over the winner though !

I can. I'd certainly like to try one in a Ka-sized body (nothing bigger though). Nothing quicker through traffic than a zippy, well-handling small car.
|
I'd like to see this engine in a Caterham.

I suspect Ford's problem will be getting people to buy this size engine in a Focus, but it will trickle through to the used market when they've got some through the fleets. I have to say that I could be tempted. By far the majority of my driving is at a moderate pace these days due to volume of traffic and fuel considerations. In 123 hp spec, longevity and reliability would be the only question.

And as its a newish development only time will tell.

Being a 3 cylinder it might sound good too.
