No idea, but is this to waive the excess? Most hire companies want it on their own policy
|
Yes indeed it is. HJ recommends insurance4carhire which is about twice the price of the other competitors on this link.

I'm sure they do... they're yet even twice as expensive as insurance4carhire. Nothing to say you cannot provide your own insurance instead.
Normally I take the risk myself, but as this will be Spain I thought an extra £20 for a week's hire would be good value.
This is basically insurance against being scammed for a scratch, on an already beaten-up car, that you didn't notice when you picked up the car, that they say you did. Anybody have any experience/hearsay of how effective this third-party insurance is?

On a recent trip to Italy I took out a policy with iCarhireinsurance.com
For 10 days it was around the £28 mark. The car hire company wanted around e150 for the same period.
I had to deal with their customer services aswell when they gave me 9 days cover instead of 10, they dealt with it efficiently.
IIRC if you are planning on multi trips in a year then they do an annual cover which would make it cheaper again.

My experience in spain is that they are quite liberal regarding damage. The car I had last week came with no damage report (my mistake for not asking) and had a few odd scratches and curbed alloys, but no comeback to me.
Car I had 2 years ago in spain was damaged by me, and again, never got charged for it.

The night before I returned a hire car (K11 Micra IIRC) in Majorca, someone had pulled back the top of the driver's door to gain entry - there was a three inch gap! I pushed it back after opening the window, but it didn't look right.
I was never charged.

Most hire companies who allow you to purchase "excess waiver" policies will still exclude damage to glass, tyres, roof or undercarriage, and exclude costs for replacing lost keys or towing charges.
Some, but not all, will allow you to pay an additional sum to pay to cover those exclusions.
I prefer to get www.enhancedroadsideassistance.com/ added (to my so-called "fully inclusive" USA hire cars) direct with the supplier.
insurance4carhire says it covers all those exclusions.
The only report I can find of any complaint against them (resolved satisfactorily due to publicity, it would seem) is this:
