A round up of the good, the bad and the ugly on E-Bay

When my Daimler V8 was sold the new owner was overjoyed to find the complete original toolkit, containing the above, in place in the spare wheel. Probably now worth as much as the car then...

I shouldn't like this, but I do.
|
I also like this:
tinyurl.com/85m2r8m
£93 a year to insure, fully comp!
|
And the seller can't spell either - maybe the decimal place was accidentally put in the wrong place too ?
Nice motor though.
|
>> maybe the decimal place was accidentally put in the wrong place too ?
It's had 20 offers, all expired/rejected except the latest one which is pending. I'm guessing at least a few of those will have been in the thousands.
I like the idea of owning a 'classic' in good condition, but £42k buys you an awful lot of new car...

Can buy an owse for £40k, op North.

That'll be one of the posh ones:

There is only one teensy, weensy detail.
You would have to be out of your mind to want to live there.

I have given you a bloody nose for that ignorant remark, Dunc.

To be fair Dog the BBC report does mention "The street which the house is on has suffered from anti-social behaviour and arson in the past.."; I wouldn't fancy it.
|
>> I have given you a bloody nose for that ignorant remark, Dunc.

I apologise.
My remark was directed at the area in which the house is situated, not the North of England in general.
Sorry for any confusion.

>>Sorry for any confusion<<
That's the problem with these ere internet forums, too easy to misconstrue what a poster actually meant.
I saw it yesterday on the Spain expat forum when two regular posters fell out BIG time.
Funny ole life though ;-)

Didn't think Port Clarence was that bad - now if it was in Clareville.....

Why can't these people spell?

They could be dislextrick?

>> Why can't these people spell?
It's mainly because of the low standard of teaching of the English language. A secondary cause is that nowadays a lot of people don't read much.

Rubbish . They all got A levels.
The NUT told me their teachers are brilliant.

In what way did it not make it understandable? And why are you not a rocket scientist?

Well not Ebay
www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C351597
But the interior so reminds me of the T reg one I bought off my Dad.
It was just three years old when I acquired it. I'd had it a few months and done the reg change bit when I asked my Dad if he had the MOT certificate. "What MOT certificate?" He replies. Whoops! :S
Passed first time I might add.

Nice car, basically a Cavalier/Ascona of course, I tuned and road tested many of them but preferred the previous model.

But surely that was a Mk1, so there couldn't have been an earlier remodel?
|
Meant to say mine was the 4 door Ascona which was the B. It superseded one that looked like this:

Yes, don't forget that Vauxhalls were mostly one Mark behind Opels...
|
What a pretty motor. Shame about the stupid price - probably get it though.
|
And you think that one is dear? :
www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C337699
Bit more of a pedigree though.
|
Talking of old sheds, what's that thing that the distinguished PR representative Max Clifford is using in posed shots to underline his innocence of whatever it is he is being accused of? It looks as if it may be some sort of Rolls-Royce themed kit car. But the designers - probably Oriental and under the influence of mind-bending drugs - have got the radiator shape badly wrong. And the panels seem appallingly badly fitted. Quality reinforced plastic is expensive, one reason why these kit cars look so naff.
How can a man of his means, hoping to pass for respectable, let himself down with such an undignified jalopy, when perfectly good Mitsubishi hatchbacks are available at tempting prices? I feel such carelessness in the choice of personal transport may indicate psychic instability, and perhaps guilt of the allegations, whatever they may be.

|
No no bt, that's an obscure kit car or I am Dutchie. The man should get something genuinely classy like a Mitsubishi.
Er...
:o} I could have added.
|
But how scratch-resistant are those cheap fake-woodgrain facia panels when one's insouciant lady passenger puts her spike heels up there to straighten her panty hose?
Whereas your Mitsubishi facia, with its thick rolls of pleasantly creaking plastic foam covered in tasteful grained leatherette, springs back almost immediately to almost its original form give or take the odd small rip. Honestly after a year or two the Mitsubishi will be worth far more than one of these pretentious kit cars with their lorry engines and crude, uncomfortable, crashy suspension.
Still, please yourself Crocks. Don't say I didn't warn you.
|
>>Yes, don't forget that Vauxhalls were mostly one Mark behind Opels...<<
I always found the Opels were screwed together better than the offering from Vauxhall.
Same with the Ford Taunus V4 compared to the offering from Dagenham.

If I won the lottery I would buy it.
But I haven't.........

"only required perishable items such as steering rack gaiters"
"still running on original Pirelli tyres"
"dry road tested this car over a 220 mile run"
and I would like to bet that he did not drive it slowly!
a high speed blow out would pretty quickly make a mess of the factory paintwork :)
|
This car was on e-bay some time ago - A Northen Irish seller he wanted around 47k for it then...
|
I smile when I see some asking prices.
On Autotrader
2003 Jaguar X Type 3.0 AWD auto.11K miles £10K.
Basic alloys, No touch screen Sat Nav in those days & no Bluetooth.
Very low mileage has tinted their glasses. :-(
I wonder how much they paid and how much it will go for?
Its in Cornwall, not the South East!!
|
>>>note that the V5 lists this vehicle as being a 1957 V8 Land Rover. All bills and history supports this...
Sailing close to the wind re registration and taxation. Wonder what percentage 1957 is left?
|
As DVLC is known for watching eBay, I'd not be surprised if the new owner didn't get a letter rescinding the registration, and requiring an SVA etc.
Won't say never, but in theory, a cart spring Landrover with a coil spring chassis will never have enough points to retain the original number.
|
>>As DVLC is known for watching eBay
For real, or urban legend?
|
>> or urban legend?
Is that a Chevvy?
|
As far as I know it's true although I can't back it up. Probably falls into both camps.
If you think about it, DVLA can pick the enforcement targets pretty easily. Bearing in mind, the declaration that has to be made for MOT exemption they'll be able to tack a further charge on without too much difficulty.
Ask yourself this though, would you feel lucky buying such a thing?

Here's another pic: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Volvo780.jpg
Was it ever sold in the UK, I can't recall ever having seen one, thankfully.
:}

Gorgeous. Not sure it was ever sold in the UK. Seen them on the Continent though. Odd bunch, over there. Bit like me. My (wonderful) Volvo 360 has been up for sale for a couple of months, and I've just have my second enquiry. From The Netherlands. Sounds a serious chap, wants to take it over there and register it for daily use. No accounting for taste, eh?
|
>>My (wonderful) Volvo 360 has been up for sale for a couple of months, and I've just have my second enquiry<<
No accounting for taste is there :)
If it's a nice'n, it'll sell - I quite liked the 360 as it happens, compared to the 340 anyway.
|
There are piccies of it on my photobucket page, if you follow the link in the light bulb thread. Should be able to see them. One of the best left, leather interior and all (lahdee dah), although I am asking top dollar for it.

Say n'more - low mileage + 2 owners + the condition = you should get some arf decent wedge for it.
Avez vous ever driven a 480? .. I drove all the way from Cornwall to Ascot in Surrey for one once.
= heap of poo!
|
>> Avez vous ever driven a 480?
Driven one? I used to own one! Lovely piece of kit. I bought it (a red G reg 1.7ES) with 150,000 on the clock, and did 25k in it (almost) without a fault, it felt like new. Then a Tonbridge Council dustcart smashed into it whilst parked round the corner form my work, and it was a goner. I'd love another one as a toy. Celebration edition for preference.
I drove it down to Penzance from Reading in 1999 for the eclipse - me, the missus and a large friend in the back seat, all the camping kit in the excuse for a boot. Great trip. Apart from the weather and the eclipse, which I'm sure you remember.

Yep :(
I always liked the look of the 480 but it turned out to be all fur coat and no knickers IMO
Being an automatic didn't help of course, plus the fact the owner turned out to be an Israeli who worked for El Al.
Do we know anyone in Austria I wonder www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C338706 :}

Good spot, Duncan. Must be using the same map which shows Dunstable to be in Berkshire.

It went for more than six times the asking price.

What you might call a miracle, but enough of all this innuendo.

Careful, look what happened last time we started talking about a famous Rolls being sold..............
|
Wow, love the camaro. If I had money to blow on a toy it would be a toss up between a late 70's AM V8 or late 60's / early 70's American muscle.

Get that CV joint done, have a bodyshop sort the wing, put 12mths MOT on it and I reckon Mapmaker will give you the £99 start.
|
>> put 12mths MOT on it
It already has that!
|
Is this your car NBD? Should be in classifieds if so - cheaper than ebay too!
|
Dad bought a new one like this in 1966. Same model and colour, SL for super luxury!. I still have the invoice, £645 IIRC, including extra for the heater. The first new car we had, and only the second.
The luxurious 'Ambla' seat covering was soft, squidgy, impermeable and very sticky in the summer.
Happy days.

Not on ebay, but what the heck
Ford Falcon XB GT 500 Coupe, also known as Mad Max’s V8 Police Interceptor. The car was manufactured and first registered in Australia with the car to this very day, only covering 43900 miles. A full commission three years ago included a new NASCAR 6498 V8 powered engine fitted producing a top speed of approximately 170 miles per hour.

Honestly Vx, what an obtrusive-looking thing, and all that damn fibreglass too.
Some of the snorting-monster Holdens are easy to spot I agree. But even they can be toned down, and it's possible to get a Vauxhall V8 saloon or coupe that you would hardly notice in the street. Those are the ones to have. You don't need 170, 150 is fine.
