Oh no, not another highly paid " caused by a dozy tanker driver" event :-)
44 sick petrol cars - a lot cheaper than if it had been petrol into diesel.
What happens to the contents cleaned out of the sites tanks ?

Why the input filling nozzles for the tankers cannot be totally different so that you cannot fill the wrong storage tank with the wrong fuel is beyond me.

The tank is divided into seperate compartments internally, and these may be used for either petrol or diesel according to the make-up of the delivery. So if you had different hoses and couplings you would need more tankers to cover the jobs. In other words it makes for greater flexibility and lower operating costs.
You may recall from another thread that the tanker driver is likely to be suspended from duty and disciplined for this; that's why it very rarely happens. If you consider how many of these deliveries are done every week, and the fact that it is on the face of it a very easy mistake to make, it's to the tanker drivers' credit that they're normally pretty thorough.
Blimey... never thought I'd go on record defending them!

I would guess that it would be pumped out and either sent to a specialist who deals in this sort of thing, or returned to the refinery for re-processing.

And that's how Britain's "favourite newspaper" reports things, good God!
