Been punting for quotes for the 3 series - cheapest so-far is £196.00 - then all the way through the major players to an eye-watering 1986.00 ! Confused.com. Carole Nash who insure the bike want £315.00....
|
Just settled with LV - 5% off 'cos I insure with them already - the gross premium is 238 which is not to hideous..at all...
|
A while back I needed to insure 3 cars. I never got around to doing it that way but I seem to think "Admiral" would have sold me one policy to cover them all. Would have been marginally cheaper I think.
Can't remember why I didn't do that.

I would consider that, trouble is the policies finish at different times of the year....too complex - another find are specific questions to eliminate "fronting" and the cheap policies are stripped down to bare bones - with Euro cover and recovery being amongst the bolt ons - I opted to protect my no claims and for the euro cover on the BMW - I have breakdown cover through my Bank. Carole Nash offered the full belts and whistles - including 365 day Euro Cover, breakdown and legal cover (bought their key cover for 20 quid the other day) - the guy I spoke to was stumped by me asking about leap-years though !

I won't get the car for at least three weeks now - build date on the F90 been pushed back...

I took out an Admiral multi-car policy earlier this year and they let you add other cars as and when their individual policies end, having quoted in advance. Quite easy really, and a good saving over what I was paying before.
My only worry is having all my eggs in one basket come renewal time. I will need to seek quotes in plenty of time come the day.

Given I now have a delay may see what they have to offer - The X1 is for sale - in a sort of passive way. Cleaned the darn thing up today an it does look good - The front seats have been cleaned with a specialist leather cleaner and they look and smell fantastic.....damnit I'm starting to love its ugly mug...

Same experience as Boxterboy. Started multi car in Jan 11 on my Xantia's annual renewal. Picked up the 'lingo when it expired in June 11 on 7/12 of premium then renewed both together in Jan 12.
In practice it's two policies in all but name. SWMBO's cover and mine are mirror images. Daughter can drive either for SD&P but only mine for work.
The lad is only covered on the 'lingo (and at an eye watering additional cost).

LV also offer a guaranteed no claims - the NCD won't be reduced no matter how many times you claim. Don't know what the eligibility for this is, but may be worth asking. Increased premium was approx £5 for each of our cars (two policies).
Page 19 of your policy booklet.

"I seem to think "Admiral" would have sold me one policy to cover them all. Would have been marginally cheaper I think."
I thought about this too but read somewhere that Admiral have a bad record of resisting claims. Anyone out there with actual experience who can confirm or deny?

No experience of making a claim with Admiralty but I set up a policy with them two or three years ago (purely on price) and cancelled it very quickly due to their customer service.
They sent through DD forms as usual and a letter confirming they had received my deposit. They demanded proof of NCD - fair enough - but also asked for copies of my driving licence, MOT, and V5 before they would issue a certificate to me. This is something I've never experienced from an insurer before or since. Documents were sent off, and a week later I had a further letter stating documents not received and that the policy would be cancelled.
I phoned their helpline which went through to the worst type of call centre in India - poorly trained staff, no flexibility, and no deviation from the script. After several increasingly heated calls I eventually had a call from their head office in Wales to tell me the documents had been overlooked but had now been located and the certificate would now be sent. It was at this point I told them to cancel the policy and refund the deposit - the thought of making a claim against this type of service was too much.
Took several weeks and a considerable number of phone calls to head office to get a refund, but I got there in the end. I had taken a policy out with Kwik Fit insurance in the meantime and have been very pleased with their service since - I've made one claim which was very quickly and efficiently dealt with.

Just signed up for a new policy with One Call Direct. Swinton's premium last year was £450-odd, this year they asked for £802 initially with a £750 excess and when I queried it only dropped the premium to £630. (39/M HGV driver, 19 years NCB, 3 points CU80 in '08, no accidents, car on driveway in lowest crime area, 17k miles p.a.)
One Call are charging me £424 fully comp with everything included (windscreen, courtesy car, legal assist, £150 excess) plus basic breakdown cover which I don't need but can't delete. The transaction was dead easy, as their name suggests.
When I got off the phone I scanned and emailed them my licence and Swinton's proof of NCD, job done. And I'll get a toy meerkat...

Sounds ok Dave. I was paying there or thereabouts on my old Mondeo for "business" cover and unlimited European use through Zurich. I'm not quite as popular with the boys in blue as you but I do have 3 points and had to confess to a lot more miles. Oddly enough the additional business use element made it cheaper. Strange but true. Didn't get a free cuckoo clock though...

You get the whole of Liverpool free with L&V....

We went over to Admiral too this year, as above they pre quoted the second car and gave me the higher figure for the first car should we decide not to go ahead with no2 later in the year.
They didn't require any proof of NCD which surprised me, nor anything else, i did wonder if the major players have quietly got a database of customers up and running, could hardly blame them if they have what with regular claimsRus and other dodgy non customers making life for all of us more expensive.
Disappointingly have had to give NFU up despite second to none customer service and an exceptional service in the event of a claim, the costs have steadily risen to levels i won't pay.
During insurance searches several cheaper quotes came up, but ignored those who feature regularly in complaints about poor service and hidden costs, hopefully chosen a balance between cost and quality, you only find out of somthing goes wrong, none of them have any trouble taking the money.

Insurance looks expensive unless it's a big car!
Cars in my immediate family
60 Reg Golf GTi.s x2
57 Reg Rav4
10 Reg X6
11 Reg Volvo XC60
57 Reg Xtrail
Old Mazda Xedos
04 Reg Lexus IS
Total premiums for 8 cars approx £2,000 i.e £250 /car
2 x oldies and 6 x sons/dils in 30's

I'm just running a quote with them now - the Occupations drop down got me a giggle !
Zoo Operator
Yarn Spinner
amongst two of the choices...

So you put down 'Yarn Spinner?'

Absolutely - nothing covered my exact status of Line Shooter.
On a serious note the insurance industry does not seem to recognize people like me, people who take on casual work now and again and rest in between. Carole Nashe charge a 50 quid admin fee for informing them of every change !
|
Well the car is finally close to becoming mine - FiL has just been told his F90 is "in transit" due at the dealer on 16.5.12 - so I'll have to activate my quote...!
|
Cheapest I can get is £600 but my dad is paying around £240 including all the usual no claims protection etc.
Interestingly some insurance companies do not want anything extra because I had a no fault accident, while some of them want to charge me an extra £1k.

R.P.
Have you tried BMW's own insurance (underwritten by Allianz)?
They were very competitive for me.

Thanks, Yes....did it last night, still 60 quid more than L&V. Still 230 odd pound is pretty reasonable given its performance..
