 An unwelcome milestone - Iffy
Filled the CC3 with diesel today and for the first time it took more than sixty quids' worth - £62.78 to be precise.

The low fuel light wasn't on, so I reckon £70+ would be easily achievable, if that's the right word.

What's your record?

I filled up my Jag in 2004, cost me £75 then so hate to think what it would be at todays prices.

News shots of the last petrol strike (10 Years ago?) had garages showing petrol @75P litre so nearly doubled for today.

"Stick a quids worth in, guv"

Used to last me a week.
 An unwelcome millstone - WillDeBeest
How lowly was your station in life that you addressed a pump attendant as 'guv'?
};---)

Regularly 'achieve' 80s for the Volvo, which will take 65 litres if I run it as low as I dare. That would be more than £90 at the £1.459 I paid yesterday to fill the Verso. Only needs filling once every three weeks at the moment, though.

Can remember being a pump attendant (!!) as a student and people coming in for 4 gallons - they got change from a quid!

no tip then, were you a dribbler?

"no tip then"
Actually, yes - quite often got a tip in those days, especially after checking tyres, oil and water (no windscreen washers in those days!)

The last light had been on for ages on the old Benz, cost me £39 when the pump finally clicked off, don't know if the last light goes out before it runs out, haven't quite run out of gas yet. LPG now up to 72p at my indy suppliers.

Got £50 of Diesel in the C2 yesterday, light not on....reminds me must stick some Millers in tomorrow.;)

''Can remember being a pump attendant''....me too, think i was about 11 at the time, near Burnham Green, Herts.

ISTR there being a minimum age for that job when I were a lad - about 16? perhaps.

But that was 44 or so years ago, maybe times have changed.

Don't think anybody bothered about such things then, i wanted a pocket money job and the mechanics who otherwise had to stop work to fill someones car up didn't.

It was at Bulls Green by the way, a tiny place, i remembered after posting, i had a nose on street view and the garage is now a substantial home.

Used to bike there from my home a few miles away at Harmer Green, happy and better days.

Coincidentally I gave the Mondeo a rare brim-fill on Friday: £77.84 to fill it up* when it had 47 miles remaining. It showed 648 miles' range afterwards, but I've done 130 miles in it already and the range is still showing 570-odd, which adds up to a 700-mile potential. Lots of child-ferrying coming up over the Easter holiday so it will need a refill quite soon I expect.

It now costs over £200 to fill up a 7.5t lorry off-site. It's not that long ago I used to be given £250 running money to buy fuel for a week.

*Didn't the DM run a (slightly exaggerated at the time) headline after last year's budget of "£70 TO FILL A MONDEO"? That figure's long since passed, it'll reach £100 a go before I sell this one, I'm sure :(

£117.08 for the Shogun.

Lasts almost a month though (averaging a whopping 27mpg mixed driving - mostly urban)

I mentioned the Disco TD5 in the old place, remarkably before it finally went in around 06 it cost 77 quid to fill ---- now that was a heavy drinker !

My old Landcruiser holds 90l plus 50 in the sub tank. I can't remember the last time I filled both, but I know I won't be doing it any time soon. Must be about 200 notes these days.
 An unwelcome milestone - Dieselboy
Filled up the C5 when showing 197 miles range left - £81. Ouch. At least it then said 850 miles to go.

At work, the vehicles *should* never go below half a tank in theory. In practice it can get to far less than that. Last time I filled one it took £97-odd. Generally they need a full tank once a day. Imagine the cost of that - £100 x 365 x a lot of vehicles. Glad I'm not paying (directly).

>> What's your record?

£74 last night.

It would have been slightly less than that had Tesco's pay at pumps been working. I had to resort to using the Esso garage next door which was 2p a litre more @138.9 p/l for unleaded.

The BP garage in Oxford was charging 142.9 p/l for unleaded. Come Monday the price there will drop again. For some reason it always increases at the weekend.

I've worked out from empty mine is about £102 at the local Tesco. But it won't ever be empty. This month about £170 diesel purchased. Last month a little more at about £190. Not all paid by me. Business mileage and all that.

Local Tesco is £144.9 per litre of standard diesel.

Only £63 to fill the CC tank? Crumbs, how small is that tank? I have been seeing £100+ fill-ups for a while in the Transporters.

Haven't broken the £60 yet, but it's getting close. Most I've ever put in has been 42 litres though, with a 45 litre tank (unleaded of course). Gets me about 500 to 550 miles usually.

I seem to be putting £60 odd in every other day. Thank heavens it's now company funded. Three years ago I was using a similar amount of fuel by volume but I was at that time self-employed and indeed it was noticeably cheaper then too.

Doesn't seem to have reduced traffic volumes though. People just carry on it appears. We live less than a mile's level stroll from our town centre but I notice that most of our neighbours who work locally still take their cars with them every morning. A couple who live next door to us both work at the same premises not ten minutes walk from here and yet they both take their individual cars to park in allocated spaces behind their office. The lady of that house is constantly complaining of needing to lose weight ( she's not wrong by the way ) and yet doesn't seem to connect that walking to work would save her money, reduce congestion and might even help her to be fitter.

People are odd sometimes aren't they ?

Audi A8.
Range 0 miles for some time.
£131 in October 2011 I think it was £1.45 at the time which is right for an empty 90 litre tank.

>> Only £63 to fill the CC tank?

If that's a response to me... I said it was just over £100. It's a 70 litre tank. £1.449 per litre times 70 litres. Quite simple maths that... :-)

And yes I typed the . in the wrong place of £1.449 per litre.

That's old news, I was seeing 70 quid for a tankful years ago.

I was driving a Land Rover Discovery V8i at the time though. I hate to think how much that would cost to fill up these days.
 An unwelcome milestone - WillDeBeest
I think the CC in question was Iffy's Focus, RTJ, rather than your Passat. Google suggests Iffy's car has a tank of only 55 litres, hence its relative cheapness to fill.

Trouble is, the less you put in, the sooner you have to go back for more. A more expensive fill-up is a small price to pay for fewer visits to filling stations.
 An unwelcome milestone - rtj70
>> A more expensive fill-up is a small price to pay for fewer visits to filling stations.

Sure is.

Our company car fuel card system is a little dumb so sometimes I fill up and more of my private miles is covered by the company than it should. But I've told the company and nothing has changed. It can work against me too but I know to avoid that :-)

I've not put more than £90 or so in this car so far.

£96 to fill the C5 up from very empty last week.

Think if I was keeping it any longer then the £100 tank would be around the corner, but as it goes back to the lease co at the end of April then doubt I will brim it again

£120.00 in the Master Blaster.
 An unwelcome milestone - crocks
Just back from Tesco having spent my personal record.
The Focus took 48.3 litres @ 139.9p = £67.70

After today's news on the tanker drivers I was expecting a queue but there was none.
An unwelcome milestone - Armel Coussine
My Bentley did about 8 mpg round town and 17 on the road if you stayed below 70. I can't remember what the tank held, but I think it was 25 gallons - certainly more than 20.

I filled it up once around 1970 and had to pay 20 quid for the juice. Seemed an awful lot at the time. Now it would be £170 or thereabouts.

The modern superluxobarge may be a tad more efficient, but it's still going to be thirsty. Not for the poor, as I eventually realised.

A Bentley what a posh car.It's ok for some.>:)
An unwelcome milestone - Armel Coussine
1953 R Type Dutchie, very classy motor, 14 years old when I got it for £525, same price then as a new Mini.

I liked it a lot but treated it disgracefully. Drove all the way up the M1 flat out once, late for a meeting. It was never quite the same again. Proper Rolls-Royces didn't like flat out for more than a mile or so although I suppose these BMW and VW faux ones can take it. And the engine oil in those days wasn't really up to it. I ought to have been shot, or at least condemned to a week in the stocks.

It's about time Esso upped their pay at pump limit.

Currently you can only put in £59 before it automatically shuts down.

At least with Tesco pay at pump you can put in £99. Mind you the way things are going, that limit will need increasing too.
 An unwelcome milestone - PeterS
Our local Shell station had a £60 'pay at pump' limit until fairly recently, which hasn't been enough to fill the tank of the A4 (70 litres) with superunleaded for years. Fortunately they refurb'ed it last year; unfortunately you can't pay at the pump at all now :-(

It does now have attended service between 10:00 and 16:00 though, so not all bad; however with one attendant and 10 pumps you could be waiting a while !
