Ads on TV here proclaiming "200 years' anniversary" at Peugeot, check-out their special offer 207s and 407s... Eh? 200 years?! Are Kiwi motorists that gullible?!

Sure thing - they make all types of stuff - kitchen utensils, tools, etc.

Is it the oldest company around to make cars?

Sure, but they weren't making cars 200 years ago were they?! And does their expertise in making kitchen utensils in 1810 really have much bearing on their car production skills 100 years later?!

Peugeots are as rare as hens teeth here in NZ. And at GBP24K for a new 407HDi I can't see that changing any time soon ;-)

Erm, no, they weren't. What I meant was is Peugeot the longest established firm which happens to make cars?

Re production skills, they have built decent diesel engines in their time and the 306 was imho a brilliant car.

We've got a pair of Peugeot salt and pepper mills.

Both very reliable, no DPF filters to change, and zero CO2 emissions!
