Fast garage service. - Old Navy
A friend has just got a NIP for his Skoda Vrs, which his wife uses, a mere 85 mph in a 60 limit. On asking the question he got an instant weepy wife (they are big time law abiders). After a little thought it was realised that the car was serviced on that day. On asking for advice from the police and producing the invoice he was told to write to the speed camera outfit with a copy of the invoice and they would sort it, but not to approach the garage (a main dealer) for two weeks as this would give them a warning of what was coming and give them wriggle time.

Not the first time it's happened.

This bloke was fortunate to leave his Roadhawk running to catch the garage in the act.

Indeed so.

Featured on top gear more than once.

Interesting car ...

Bloke up the road had one for a couple of years. It made a right rumble going by.

Usefully amongst the documentation received from Williams BMW on the bike service was the "time in" & "time collected by owner" and also a signed slip of paper covering the mileage covered and times of the road test. Pretty watertight.

That's pretty thorough, yes.

When I collect and deliver cars I always get the time and date of handover written on the form. Just for the customer's peace of mind I round it off to the nearest 5 minutes in their favour, it always takes more than 5 minutes to appraise and hand a vehicle over anyway if you're doing it properly.

My friend has just sold his VXR8. Gorgeous thing. I remember sitting in it, and revving the engine at a standstill and the 430bhp 6.2 litre Corvette V8 rocks the whole car from side to side, like an old muscle car. Sounds fantastic as well, with lots of pops and bangs on the overrun, and a classic old school American V8 howl as the revs build.

Brutally quick, very tail happy, and very reliable. The downsides were, rather predictably, 18 mpg, and somewhat stunted rear tyre life! :-)

One of the few "modern" cars I've experienced that has character. Bags of it. You can't help but love the thing.

The OP's friend should be OK with the NIP, but it would be wise for them to make a note now of where they were that day, just in case the garage tries to pull a stroke.

Leaving the NIP aside, what would you do with the garage?

Taken in isolation, doing 85mph in the Skoda won't have done it any harm, although it may have been thrashed in other respects during the journey.

I would be annoyed by the garage's conduct, but I can't think of any redress I might realistically obtain.

Given that it's a main dealer, and assuming that he's had reasonable service from them beforehand, a letter to their MD for starters expressing dissatisfaction at their actions. I would have thought this might provoke the offer of a free service in the hope that it's not taken further, which has got to be worth a couple of hundred quid of anyone's money.

If no result, a letter to Skoda UK. Manufacturers do not tend to tolerate negative publicity from their franchisees.

From my experience, Skoda dealers tend to be smaller, sometimes family outfits and not huge dealer networks.

Think you would get a good response from them.
