Ford Mondeo III - 05 TDCi 130 ECU update fixes poor starting - Dave_
An update to the thread I posted 6 months ago*:

www.car4play.com/forum/post/index.htm?t=7049

When starting the engine of my Mondeo TDCi 130, for the first 3 or 4 seconds of running both the charging light and Engine Management light stayed on, the throttle pedal was unresponsive and the engine "chuntered" along at around 400rpm, before the fault cleared itself and the engine would pick up and run smoothly.

It turned out that this was an issue with the ECU programming, and a "patch" was issued by Ford in 2006 to rectify the problem. Ford main dealers, from the evidence on the Mondeo owners' forums anyway, seemed to be reluctant to update cars when owners asked them to. Instead the owners were fobbed off or charged for unnecessary and ineffective diagnostic tests that proved nothing, and then charged £100+ for the update itself.

Last week I found an independant local garage who specialise in ECU remaps and upgrades who seem to have all the right kit, after they were recommended to me by two separate people within a week. The garage carried out the update on my car this afternoon, so instead of software version 523/10/2005 my car now has version 650/11/2011 and the starting problem has gone away completely.

The cost? 30 quid plus VAT. Well happy.

*I started a new thread because resurrected threads on here tend to attract un-needed answers to the original question, and I didn't want anyone to waste their time composing one of those :)

Sure. The owner, Dave, knows exactly what he's doing. The price may have gone up since I posted the original thread almost 2 years ago, and my Mondeo's long gone after its DPF imploded last October. Anyway:
