This car has plastic lens on which some previous driver stuck the beam reflectors for driving overseas. Taking them off was obviously so difficult that he left an area of deep scratches which appear to be affecting the beam.

I have tried to polish these out, but only with little effect and wonder if you can buy new plastic covers only without buying the whole headlight assembly?

Hi,
Before you replace the lens, try polishing it with Duraglit metal polish. I've found it to be good for polishing scratches from glass, watch's and even glasses.

hope this helps

A link to one of the MB forums where a regular poster has polished scratches out of his headlamp lenses...some good pics too.

I hope this direct link is OK mods, i've got me pointy hat with a big D on it if needed..;)

Thanks GB. I think I need to get out into a shop and buy various bits of kit.

I just googled and did a you tube search on polishing headlights.

More than you can shake a stick at.

Where's Stu when you need him ? Is he here yet ? Or is he still buffing something up over there ?

Problem is the scratches are more like shallow gouges than fine scratches.

Looks like a job for wet'n'dry used over a small area on a soft block (mask off OK material), used coarse to fine, then "flour grade", then Perspex polish or similar.

thought you were going to say
Looks like a job for superman.then

Stop mucking about. Its a complete new headlight unit.

>>>new headlight unit.

Yep and a bargain £200 a side on EBay!
 Volvo XC90 - 07 2.4 Headlight lens - Bellboy
plus breakages
plus its probably a ying ting copy thats nigh on impossible to get a decent pattern on for seeing where you are going and passing trivialities like mot"s?
 Volvo XC90 - 07 2.4 Headlight lens - Fenlander
You can imagine reporting it to the police....

I've had my headlamps nicked... who would do that?

I've no idea but there are loads of used ones on EBay to replace them!

how would you know if its your lens at fault or your headlight motor? and how much do these costs now a days.
 Volvo XC90 - 07 2.4 Headlight lens - archebald23
i was able to pin point the culprit and it was indeed my headlight
motor
( www.thepartsbin.com/brands/a1_cardone/a1_cardone_headlight_motor.html ) and it somehow affected the headlight lens. i had it checked and the mechanic said there was too much current running on the wires.

Gosh just look at that rust! On a Mecedes Benz as well. Most 15 year old super-minis have less rust.

Those inner wings look like borderline MOT failures. I hope for Mercedes' sake that's a poorly repaired crash job.

merc's rust like the rest, infact may be worth googling front subframes on some mercs, they went through a very bad patch & merc were replacing them FOC for a while due to horrendous rust problems. i seem to remember it was e class models bout 10 year ago
peugeot do a better job of there body work than merc, just a shame the Pugs are so thin & fragile
